He lives the same life over again through the same time period, by twenty years he means the twenty years he has to live through again. Could be 100 years for someone else.

Can someone explain how this has positive thumbs, but someone else who said that "this wouldn't happen if you had a macbook" received negative thumbs? I kinda feel bad for the guy.

Fuck yeah for the power cord not falling out!
#38 - muffinssnuffims (01/29/2014) [-]
Not sure why people are thumbing this down. Say what you want about the rest of the computer, but the magnetic power cord is the SHIT.

Honestly I've been pissed at windows for not adding that or at least some kind of plastic release that functions the same way for ages. Like it's basic engineering to create something that resists a force that might break it only when it's supposed to, and to just release if that prevents damage.

Instead they just try to build the whole computer structure around resisting crazy hard pulls from there (which IS more expensive in design than the magnets, btw), and is idiotic and inconvenient.

Implying that Microsoft (because Windows is an Operating System, not a company) has any input on the physical design of laptops other than their own and its their fault they haven't used a design that's patented by Apple.

As for other methods of securing the cable, completely agree. Even if its a clunky as all hell solution like what VGA and DVI have, why not? Displayport and SATA are the shit when it comes to locking connectors.

Had no problems with it on my non-appleshit-pc - There is no reason to have a fucking magnet or strap to keep my charger in - I think it all boils down to my PC not needing some retarded support-wheel system to function, it just works by defult - No added mumbo-jumbo.

ALL HAIL MASTER-RACE COMPUTER! (*whisper, anything that isn't apple...!!!")
#77 - muffinssnuffims (01/29/2014) [-]
No, it more likely boils down to things like how much you have to travel with it, the awkward places you have to use it from not having a table or desk, and most of all...

AND I MEAN MOST OF ALL:

LITTLE. KIDS. Also pets. No matter how well placed the cord is, they'll find a way to trip over it. Guaranteed. It's like fucking magic man. No idea how they do it sometimes. I've even had that happen with cords that have the professional cord cover shit over it. Plus, a plastic release thing or a magnet is only gonna be like 1-5 extra bucks. In other words, worth it for the vast majority of people and laptop models.
#78 - gromgalgo (01/29/2014) [-]
THAT, on the other hand, is a very good point. I just use mine in my appartement and at the university - Few kids and animals finds their way to my cord. Might be the reason xD I just like to bash on Apple...

Laptop manufacturers such as HP, Dell, or Lenovo are barred from adding MagSafe-type chargers to their laptops because Apple holds the patent on the technology.
User avatar #213 - RiflemanFunny (01/29/2014) [-]
They could pay royalties.
User avatar #219 - deathchain (01/30/2014) [-]
They actually can't. Apple doesn't currently license the connector or the patent.
User avatar #220 - RiflemanFunny (01/30/2014) [-]
Redesign the concept then.

There are ways around patents though. Also, that's why I mentioned a plastic quick release. The patent is on it being magnetic, but there are other ways to achieve the same thing.

It's just bad engineering what they're doing...
User avatar #98 - deathchain (01/29/2014) [-]
There are ways around patents, sure, but look at the Apple-Samsung legal war that's been going on for the last, what, three years? I doubt many manufacturers want to deal with that.

Besides, by the time the plug or socket breaks, the next model of that laptop or other laptops will be out, and what do the people of modern western society typically do when something breaks? They buy a new one. It's in the OEM's best interest to continue using the conventional, flawed charger to increase the chances of their customers buying a new laptop.

I did see a third party charger once though, for the ill-fated HP dv6000 laptop, that had a secondary plug in its wire. It was abnormally loose, and if pulled, would slide out long before enough force to move the laptop was applied.

If you regret buying a mac assuming you bought it yourself you're a moron.
You should really see if it fits your use, i mean i miss playing games, but i do not regret it one second.
