Learning from past mistakes
To be fair, $300 is the lowest launch price for a home console we've seen in over a decade. Once the Switch has a decent games library and Nintendo has streamlined the production more they'll be able to dip the price and might even start selling the system at a loss like Sony and Microsoft are. They're releasing it early enough in the year that a price drop for Christmas is entirely reasonable to expect, and by then they'll likely have bundles to sweeten the deal. Also, unless there's some leak I'm unaware of, the Switch isn't so much weaker than the PS4 that it'll be a developmental issue like the WiiU was for most multiplatform games (although admittedly ARM vs AMD might be annoying for ports). It IS weaker and that'll turn away some 3pp for sure, but I feel like it'll be close enough that a healthy number of 3rd party developers will still be willing to make the ports. I do feel that the Switch will end up as the secondary console for a lot of people, but I would be surprised if its numbers don't at least double the trainwreck that was the WiiU, since I feel a scenario like this would come up fairly frequently "you know, I could buy NBA 2K18 for my PS4, but I think I'll actually grab this one on my Switch instead so I can take it with me," which in turn will convince enough 3pp that the Switch is a viable platform that it'll get some neat exclusives, convincing more people to buy the system, repeating the cycle.
Third party development isn't looking amazing out of the gate (it's okay, but nothing spectacular), but the excitement of the possibility of portable AAA games should allow Nintendo to regrow its place in the market and convince enough developers to work with the console that it should have a healthy life cycle. I can't see the Switch overtaking the PS4 in sales, but unless the XBOne continues its push that it's had the past couple of months, I could see the Switch overtake it fairly easily. Nintendo's always done fantastic in the handheld market, and the Switch is portable enough that I can easily see it pulling in plenty of that market to buffer its sales once its price has dipped a bit.
Hell, that's why I'm getting mine. Portable AAA and enough exclusives to keep me happy. I doubt my PS4 will start collecting dust, but I don't think my Switch will either.

Was the WiiU jailkek'd ?
since before summer i think (the wii u games, the wii games part or vwii has been hacked almost since day 1)
Shit, might just consider getting the switch if they jailbreak the shit out of it.
from what i understand though, it will only play physical games, not digital ones, and it uses a propietary cartridge, so that plus the fact that it's a newer architecture than the U or the 3DS will make it harder for homebrew and pirating to arrive.
they will arrive for sure, but it might take a long while.
then there's the paying for online bullshit but if i pirate the games i ain't gonna bitch about it
if it's physical games only, that's a bad business decision. Not a lot of people are going out to stores to buy games when they could just buy them instantly from an online store. Just look what happened to gamestop because of it. They gutted half their store and replaced it with tshirts and toys and other small gaming themed items because nobody was buying games anymore.
Even if it is physical games only, I'm sure it'll still be hacked to play games. Just look at things like Daemon Tools. Old PC games that required you to have the disk in can now be played because of virtual image mounting.
3ds did take a while before it was hacked for 3ds stuff
also, the 3ds is worth every cent
even though the resolution is utter crap, even though the 3ds slows down many games (it's actually disabled on the latest pokemon games), and even though the hinges on the new 3ds suck, it's just so fucking great. it can now be hacked in every system version without paying a single cent (well you might wanna buy a larger microSD card), and you can play 3ds games, ds games, even gba and gb/gbc games through emulators (some of the gb games are proper ports, such as pokemon red/blue), fucking microsoft DOS games, snakes, play music, make your own themes with blackjack and hookers, stream the screen to a pc, use the 3ds as a pc controller, and a fuckton of other stuff. it's just the niftiest gadget i own, there's no end to what i do with it.
i own both od3ds(the original blue/green color) and n3ds mario one both hacked and everything. 128gb microsd already and setup on lastest system versions each trust me i know. But in terms of really good hackign 3ds didnt get that good till later firmwares. As there wasnt that many exploits that could be found and used in early firmwares. Thats why 9.2 was the first gold age firmware while the second is now. I watched the 3ds scene from beginning to where it is now. so i know.
well, a lot of the pros actually let it sit for a while before starting to go all in on it, so that ninty could have time to actually sell games and not be discouraged because of the pirating. same thing happened with the wii, when game sales started to drop drastically, proper softmod arrived and console sales skyrocketed
