Most people don't really care enough to get involved, which is why they probably haven't been labelled a hate group yet. And yes, for the most part someone will hold them as the tragic victims for a while but that will die down after a while too, and at that point they won't be around to picket more funerals.

I think there is a petition going on right now over the internet, but whether that goes anywhere or not, I don't know. And again I believe that if someone were to take action they'd be sentence to jail, for sure. Sure, it might die down, but the man who shot up the church will still be in prison.

Fred Phelps will probably die soon, as he's pretty old. I think a fitting revenge would be to picket his funeral in a way that would be highly embarrassing/infuriating to the WBC (though it might be hard to come up with something they haven't already heard before).
