You seem to be filled with quite a bit of rage there friend. It'd be one thing if he was flat-out saying "Americans are dumb" or "The British are stupid". But there's nothing wrong with having something about your country of origin to be proud of. And saying we could learn from Finland isn't the same as insulting us, even though our school systems here in America could use the kick in the ass. Take it easy.

because socialism totally didn't work in Canada, Iceland, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, or all those other places it worked in.
in fact, Canada in particular was in a position to totally ride out any form of recession when it was run by a socialist government (under Paul Martin), and only started to feel any sort of problems until a conservative was elected into power (Stephen Harper).
seriously, Harper is one of the biggest fucking morons ever

Yes, friend. Socialism has worked out great for these nations that all have less than a tenth of the population of the US. Not that I don't appreciate the Socialist model, but it can't really support a massive population, especially when the way that it would be executed would still be in favor of the people who suck up unemployment benefits. The problem with Socialism here is that people already only strive to succeed with a minimal amount of effort, and giving them more for an equally small amount of effort would only hurt the people that work incredibly hard to succeed. In the end, it removes the ability for people to exceed or fail.
Not saying that bigheads should receive massive subsidies as they do, but when the population has fallen for entirely extrinsic motivations, it's impossible to encourage people to really strive for anything greater than the norm if all they're going to receive in the end is what you would receive for doing the norm.
I share beliefs for both sides, but socialism only sounds good when you've already got the short end of the stick. Reward people by merit.

woah woah woah hold the fuck up, paul martin was not a socialist, hell the liberal party barely scratches the surface of the left wing in comparison to those scandinavian countries . Canada is more centrist than anything, and even the NDP aren't that far on the left wing.

Because America should be run like those countries. We are exactly the same, all full of hardworking citizens who won't abuse the system.
Just because it works in countries with about 1/3 of the US's population doesn't mean it will work here. Look at all the lazy, good-for-nothings this country is full of and ask yourself "do I want to pay extra taxes for them?"

uhhhh...i suggest you go look at the rates of people who or on social security and welfare. only about 3.5% of recipients could ACTUALLY be considered abusers. it's a common myth that republicans seem to enjoy perpetuating that people on social security don't want to work.
