Alright story time:
My parents almost divorced a year ago because of an extra-conjugal affair. They still and always loved each others, but shit was really tense back then. I was at first mad at my mother for cheating on my dad (especially when he was having a rough year, lost his dad and was getting harassed to depression at his job). My parents agreed that my mother should to live away from the house for a while, and it was feeling so awkward. My older brother didn't want to communicate with my mother anymore, my father kept talking shit on her. Heck, I was pissed at her too. But the real deal though, it that I (and my 3 other siblings) only heard one side of the story: My father's.

Through the year, my father was treated like shit at work (fukken Chinese companies, man. They literally do not understand the concept of work ethics). Belittled in his successes while Chinese guys were awarded for his work (yeah, they're also communitarian as fuck), blamed when his superiors fucked up. And it took me a while to realise, but it made my father developing an inferiority complex, and to save his esteem, he was always mocking my mother, picking on her for the least mistake she did, like telling her:
"Goddamit you can't do anything right, haha ! You're so hopeless. Eh, that's the way we like you, anyways." for overcooking a meal and whatnot.

And it went like that, for months before I get to realise what my mother was getting through. One evening, as my father was at it again during dinner, and that I was joking along with him, I told my mother that it was just banters and that I still love her nonetheless, and I saw her almost crying. I thought she was just having a rough day and that a family-roasting was the last straw, although a bit weird, I thought nothing more of it. But actually, she was enduring a borderline-bullying for months.
So yeah, one day at her work she happened to do a presentation, and some guy told her that she was amazing and awesome and whatnot so they went on a date or whatever (I don't know all the details, and I don't really need nor want to).

Things went by, and I somehow managed to make them get back together by ditching a concert I was supposed to go at with my father (since I didn't want to hear him talk shit about my mother again), and as none of my siblings were up for it, my parents went to that concert together, and eventually got back together
Now they're happy together, still love each others, and my father is suing his former company (and as the company wasn't event trying to hide how shitty they were, it looks like he already won).

TL;DR: You never know the backstory. People don't always cheat on their partners for the sake of it. Sometimes, it's way more complicated...
