I am truly sympathetic to your position. However, you are suggesting something difficult to define, and difficult to apply.

Taking any of the bible as literal has its hazards, as does suggesting that we are able to tell other people how they should or should not conduct themselves in matters of faith.

Faith takes many forms. Though it may seem distasteful, they are allowed to follow a strict interpretation of some passages in the bible, and enforce them as part of their faith.

The person receiving this letter does NOT, however, have to accept that their interpretation is correct, much as you do not interpret it as such.

For reference:

Mathew 18

15 “If your brother or sister[a] sins,[b] go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over. 16 But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’[c] 17 If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector.

It is of note, that this passage seems to be in contradiction to Luke 6:37

37 “Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.

As I said, strict interpretation of SOME passages. Therein, not others.

I understand, but it's very difficult to take what the Bible says at face value.. Irregardless, I don't believe you can pick and choose which parts of the bible you can directly interpret.. If you are going to take the Bible at face value, then take the WHOLE Bible at face value..

The Bible also says "an eye for an eye" and "if a man looks at a women lustfully, his eyes should be gouged out".
