I live in Southampton and since the government cutbacks to the welfare systems I have noticed more homeless people out on the streets, probably due to the closing of homeless shelters and the like.
It's moderately intimidating that virtually every car park will have 2-3 homeless people sitting inside at the pay point. That and it smells worse of urine than ever before.

Nintendo in a Nutshell
Like how Nintendo created Sony as gaming company by royally fucking over its own employees time and time again. The gaming part of Sony is literally spawned by pure spite out of Nintendo.
Basically like how Atari fucked themselves the same way. Nintendo used ColecoVision (Atari's competitor at the time) technology to create Donkey Kong on a home console. Atari was so upset, that they cut Nintendo out of a deal. Nintendo countered by saving the game industry by introducing the NES after the crash that was pretty much induced from a terrible flood of bad games from Atari.
I think too many people live in permanent nostalgia. Nintendo hasnt made anything note worthy since the gamecube era.
I blame the idea of "Everyone is a winner"
pretty sure entire consoles are noteworthy... There's only three companies that make them, in case you hadn't noticed.
Name 2 characters which were Developed after the gamecube by nintendo. Being a producer doesnt count I mean something they made in house.
They have milked Mario Zelda Metroid donkey kong and kirby for 25 years most of their primary demographic is younger than every primary character in their roster.
Nintendo has been playing it so safe for the past few years its absurd and the few risks they have made like motion control have either been gimmicky and fundamentally flawed, or short sighted.
I would like Nintendo to take at least a few risks. What about a zelda game placed in the lost years of OOT maybe featuring Zelda/shiek as the primary character and what she needs to do to keep things under control. What about a new character? I my self have stopped buying Nintendo products because i disagree with their philosophy. I think players problem solving intelect, their time, and their patience should be repected. I feel that everyone is a winner is a prime example of how to alienate people, and rob them of any accomplishment for accomplishing or progressing in a game. I think that having an Action adventure/exploration game like a zelda shouldnt need to constantly interrupt me telling me how to solve puzzles, or constantly flashing the controls on the screen telling me what to do.
Nintendo is a shadow of its former self and I think its a major loss for the gaming industry that they havent evolved.
Shulk, Wonder Red, Magnus, Wii fit trainer, Rosalina, Viridi, Reyn, Louie, The Elite Beat Agents, Marshal etc. etc. etc. I could go on for a very long time. Just because you don't play their games doesn't mean the characters don't exist.
Also, playing it safe? The reason the Wii U is in the shitter is that they took a FUCKING ENORMOUS risk and it didn't pay off. They tried to innovate and got punched in the dick for it.
Also, nobody cares about your shitty unoriginal sequel ideas m8y. Making a new direct OoT sequel is the exact opposite of a risk, THAT would be whoring out.
Just gonna say, wii-fit trainer isn't exactly the pinnacle of a good character, she's more like a better quality model from the Endorphin animation program.
And innovation =/= instant success. Not trying to offend, my opinion, but the gamepad was an awful idea. At least with the DS the screens were close enough that you moves your gaze back and forth, and the bottom screen wasn't always needed. I didn't look having to switch to the gamepad screen in things like Zombi-U, where the inventory should not have to be a separate screen, it felt like it was making more work than necessary. Same with having a scope mean having to look through the screen, that wasn't even adding to an immersing experience.
Innovation certainly isn't an instant success, it's the opposite. It's very unlikely to trend, but if it does it explodes. The gamepad itself is pretty excellent, it just needs to be used well. It's a great-feeling controller while also including all the stuff that made the DS so popular. They just need to figure out what they're doing with it. In the meantime, I think it's just a nice way to have UI elements like health, maps and items not cluttering the main screen. ZombiU certainly didn't work too well, but that entire game was rushed and janky as heck.
To me it was a downgraded Dead Island, and that was a horrible game. And yes it could work, but it's definitely not a controller for everyone. I just hated the screen, made it feel too bulky, because I like slimmer controllers to begin with and only was okay with the DS because the buttons had to be built in to the system itself to be small. And more games like Dead Space would help, where the game and characters have ways to display health via the suit and the person themselves.
Well, there's always the Wii U pro controller, which is pretty much a 360 controller with nintendo's
superior buttons (apart from the triggers, which are crap, since they're buttons and not really triggers at all), and works with most games on it.
Anyway, almost everyone who tries my Wii U is incredibly surprised by how light and ergonomic the controller is, I think most people can get used to it quite quickly. (hell, I thought it would be a bulky POS before I tried it in a demo booth)
This is so painful it hurts dude it just proves my point.
Of that list only 1 character was both original and was MADE by Nintendo Which was Rosalina you could make at least a reasonable argument that she is no different than Daisy just another reskin of Peach. We will count it for arguments sake though.
Wii fit trainer is not a character, you might as well include the Wii Avatars. Shulk Wonder Red Magnus Viridie, reyn, Lousie, The elite beat agents and Marshall were not Developed by Nintendo you might as well include Bayonetta. Im not saying my ideas are better my point is that they take so little risk that a Zelda game that predates the Minish Cap still features Link with the same Hat (because how else would we know its Link). To finalize that point they dont have any new characters to front run their new games. The best you came up with is a new supporting character for the Mario Universe.
Your right the Wii U was a risk Im not sure how innovative 2 screens are but your correct it was a risk. While they take massive business risks they develop the safest games they can.
Nintendo's studios that they own 100% of = Nintendo. They even share devs with Mario and Zelda, since nintendo likes to move employees around between their projects. Even the Mario and Zelda games are technically made by a 'seperate' studio, they just don't credit them. Also Magnus and Viridi are from Kid Icarus and Louie is from Pikmin. Seriously, do your research before you go off on one.
They're having to make 'safe' games with their main studio in order to keep the Wii U afloat, but at the same time they're trying new stuff like X, Wonderful 101, bayonetta 2 etc. In the meantime. Big nintendo devs like Shigeru Miyamoto himself keep wanting to make new IP, but it's difficult for them to do it. Remember Drill Dozer? Of course you fucking don't. It was a brand new IP by Game Freak, aka the pokemon studio. Did it sell? NOOOOPE.
Also, here's your two MAIN characters: Dillon from Dillon's rolling western and Jill from Drill Dozer. There's plenty more, but they're all from tiny little new nintendo IP games that were completely ignored. Again, they exist, but people don't give a flying fuck.

im well aware that nintendo is the reason for videogames still being around today and how integral they are to gaming. the problem most people have with them is they focus on their main franchises, primarily zelda and mario, and dont take on many third party games meaning that their selection is usualy small. and im talking about real games not the mingame collections and stuff
Nintendo hasn't been a main console, I'd say since SNES days. Nintendo has had huge trouble with 3rd party since the N64. Besides, I'm not buying a Nintendo console to play 3rd party. I'll get a ps4 or Xbone, when the price immensely drops and the devs really know how to bring out the hardware, for 3rd party and the few worthwhile 1st party games they'll release. Nintendo hasn't been the main console for the majority in years.
It's funny, I wonder why I'm being down voted. I'm a huge Nintendo fan, it actually is my main console. But the majority, like I have said, are going to buy Nintendo as a secondary console.

Well, you're slightly wrong. Nintendo has been very restrictive of third party developers in the past (SEE: Gamecube). The main console thing is slightly misleading, PLUS the N64 was indeed the shit with all of it's good games.
What I think is most relevant is this series by The Game Theorist about how innovation simply isn't selling and that people often don't really want what they say they want
(This is the third out of three)
Oh, and it is because people consider anything innovative and gimmick now, especially if it's Nintendo.
And you're right people would rather have the same old thing over and over again. Hence, the Xbone and PS4.
Nintendo has just been doing things that aren't friendly for 3rd parties. For example, cartridges were way more expensive than discs. For current times, the WIi U's hard ware is so different that you can't just do a "copy and paste" like they can do for the PS4 and Xbone because of its similar hardware.
And the N64 was indeed. I still need to purchase an NES and SNES, the only 2 home consoles from Nintendo I sadly still do not own.
MattPat is really limited in his scope of things.
Innovation DOES sell, it just needs a bit of time. Almost every franchise has started humbly and then built on in terms of sales from sequel to sequel. As long as the game is good and interesting, it just takes a bit of patience for the game to take off. Nintendo NEEDS to make new IP's or atleast change things up, reason why the WiiU sold so poorly was because of their very redundancy in games.
They need VARIETY in their game lineups, games that are different from the generic mario game, so that anyone and everyone can find something that they love on the system. Variety is key, a good library of games is essentialy what the WiiU needs and what e.g. the DS and the PS2 had that made them two of the most popular consoles in history.
they do actually make awesome games, the real problem its that they dont advertise them. so people dont even know they exist besides from mouth to mouth.
>im well aware that nintendo is the reason for videogames still being around today
Sure, they have played a huge role in the videogame industry, but you cannot go about saying stuff like this. Do you think nintendo invented videogames or something?
in 1983 you couldnt sell a game console to save your life. nintendo is the reason the gaming industry didnt just burn out and die before any of us were born
