You know, I've been wondering: we know that dogs, if properly socialized, identify themselves with humans; what about humans?
I've come up with the crazy idea that there must also be a of human-to-dog imprinting of sorts.
I know many people who haven't had contact with dogs when young, and they have a very peculiar attitude towards them.
They're constantly anxious, and it's not just the "I hope it doesn't bite me" anxiety, it's a kind of subtle panic, as if they were in presence of a predator.
I can't really express it, but it doesn't look like simple fear, it's something very...primitive.
Do you know anything about this?
I am a bit of an ethology amateur, so not really much of an authority.

well i'm not completely sure on this subject either, but it's most likely a learned behaviour, so if someone's parents were scared of dogs or had parents that just didn't like dogs, then they would be more likely to show the same attitudes towards dogs (this is not always the case but is a frequent cause). that's all i can really say on the matter tbh, as humans and dogs have sort of 'evolved' together then it is most likely a learn behaviour to be scared of dogs or just through lack of socialisation with dogs when you're a child. interesting fact: physical touch between a dog and its owner can reduce stress and slow the heart beat of both individuals.
