Gay people can reproduce, they just choose not to.
Which means they are alright and do not have such an illness.

or perhaps Biological Altruism.
You biological decide not to reproduce to benefit other organisms. Such behavior is maximally altruistic. sterile organisms obviously do not leave any offspring of their own—so have personal fitness of zero´, but their actions greatly assist the reproductive efforts of other organisms.
So if there where a biological conscience that feels the problem of overpopulation, altruism (in form of homosexuality), would be a likely response.

In social insect colonies (ants, wasps, bees and termites) sterile workers devote their whole lives to caring for the queen, constructing and protecting the nest, foraging for food, and tending the larvae.
These individuals do not reproduce , but are crucial for the entire species to reproduce and swarm.
As to what you believe, and what is right, none of us have any answers. We can only reflect onto other biological organisms, and see that homosexuality and sterility is not rare on earth.
