Actually, many short burst of high intensity exercises is proven to be the best at burning fat. Cardio is an outdated idea and has been disproven of being the best fat loss exercise.
#67 - auryn (06/28/2014) [-]
Yes, that's called interval training and it can be applied to any cardiovascular exercise.

you can place every exercise known to man under the genre cardio if you want, cause all exercises require blood..

but when people say cardio exercise they refer to low intensity workouts and you know it, what #44 is talking about is HIIT(High Intensity Interval Training), not "low intensity interval training"

Its humanly impossible to gain muscle mass without gaining fat tho.
#58 - auryn (06/28/2014) [-]
You clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

Muscle is build from the amino acids derived from proteins, bodyfat is build by an excess of carbs and dietary fats.
Although it's not the most efficient way, you could very well build some muscle while also burning bodyfat or stay at the same percentage bodyfat.

It all depends on your work-out routine and diet.

In practice however it's more efficient to be contantly on a slight caloric surplus with your body having acces to all the essential nutrients it needs for optimal growth.
User avatar #64 - Retardio (06/28/2014) [-]
Missinformation much? Your body needs 2-3 times as much carbs as it does protein to build muscle, protein does pretty much nothing without a good dose of carbs. And you talk as if protein doesn't turn into fat, well it does, protein breaks down into glucose(sugar) and is stored in your fat cells, that is unless you have just worked out and have excess calories in your diet(some of it will still turn into fat tho).

Thus to gain muscle, you must be willing to gain fat.
The shit you talk of is just misinformation used by salesmen to sell bad products to lazy and stupid people who think they can get a six-pack while watching TV munching on junk and sipping on soda, while everyone who is actually getting results are also packing on fat that they later shred off, tho it seems like more work, its the only way that does work.
#71 - auryn (06/28/2014) [-]
A valid point regarding the protein break down.

But It's perfectably possible to find that equilibirum where you eat just enough for muscle gain, but not gain any bodyfat, while burning some bodyfat during the exercises in the process.

Although the rate of both muscle gain and bodyfat loss would be pretty slow.

When I did bodybuilding for a couple of years I used to bulk too, simply because it's more efficient.

User avatar #73 - Retardio (06/28/2014) [-]
What you are talking about is not muscle gain, its strength gain. Not the same thing.

Doing the same thing over and over will make your body better at it, that includes lifting, it enables you to lift heavier but it does not equal getting bigger. Just cause you lifted heavier and retained more water than before you exercised does not mean you built muscle.
#79 - auryn (06/28/2014) [-]
I'm definitely talking about muscle mass gain.

You don't necessarily need that many carbs in the range which can lead to storage of bodyfat for a sufficient protein synthesis that would lead to muscular hypertrophy.
In fact, although carbs might be more benificial for a better training (higher energy levels) a quicker repair (due to glycogen and spiking insulin) they are not necessarily needed for protein synthesis at all.

There are plenty of studies on this.
User avatar #62 - Funnel (06/28/2014) [-]
Except the human body refuses to use protein to build muscle unless you're on a calorie surplus.

That is why everyone who gain muscle also gain fat. You can't skew your macros to create loopholes in physics, if your way worked everyone would be doing it, but there has been 0 proven cases of it worldwide so far.

You can however gain strength on a calorie deficit or on calorie maintenance, but not muscle mass, this by the help of the nervous system, not magic loopholes.
#63 - auryn (06/28/2014) [-]
It's not a simple as just a caloric surplus or deficit. You cannot simplify it like that, a lot of other factors are into play. It's not a loophole, you're taking a lot of things out of account.

It's about eating the right amount of the right things at the right time.

"but there has been 0 proven cases of it worldwide so far." Did you just make that up?
#72 - tipsyjenny (06/28/2014) [-]
Show me a legit source of how to gain muscle without a calorie surplus without them trying to sell me something.

I will show you boobs.
I won't show boobs. But I will give you a thumb, fresh out of the oven
#86 - auryn (06/28/2014) [-]
First ask yourself the question on the exact reason why you think you necesarily need a calorie surplus.

Could you please elaborate, maybe I can help you understand or get some misconceptions out of the way?
User avatar #40 - xgreenmaidenx (06/28/2014) [-]
And what is "cardiovascular exercises"
#44 - auryn (06/28/2014) [-]
Generally, light-to-moderate intensity activities that are sufficiently supported by aerobic metabolism can be performed for extended periods of time.
For instance: running/jogging, swimming, cycling, and walking.

Although you could do it with bodyweight exercises or weights too, but the emphasis should be on extended periods of time. Basically anything that involves stamina / endurance.

The main difference is with strength based exercises you deplete the glycogen in the muscle for fuel, if you only do short, low repetion count sets you'll hardly burn any fat.
With cardiovascular exercises your body starts to burn bodyfat as it's energy source.
#65 - brainbruce (06/28/2014) [-]

well you obviously dont know funnyjunkers

if you ever paid attention to them. they largely bitch at anything that contradicts mainstream ideals of political corectness

in the case of this pic, providing the non-PC truth about race/species, the FJ kids would bitch about it being 'racist'

then again you seem to devote your time to ************ others instead of paying attention to them
