1. factories in minecraft do not look good in minecraft, use a texture pack
2. base it off a real world design

for general building
3. repeating vertical lines do not look good
4. repeating patterns do not look good
5. flat roofs / triangle roofs suck
6. arches are always good
7. always think about block variation, try out some block combos in creative
8. you walls should always have depth of 3 to 4 blocks
that is all I can think of the top of my head

Smelt cobble into stone. Make stone brick stairs/slabs. Make a really big stone cube, add pillars going down the corners and possible middle of the cube out of stone brick with stairs at the base. Add large rectangular (longer going down than wide) and make chimneys out of cyan hardened clay (it looks gray). Add a red tip a few blocks from the tip. If you want to make the base of the chimney thicker than the end. Add netherrack a block under the end and light it on fire to get the smoke effect.
User avatar #816703 - alstorp (01/27/2014) [-]
Build a bigger box with high roof and big chimneys with fire just below the top of the chimney so it looks like smoke comes out of it.

User avatar #816658 - attifyon (01/27/2014) [-]
I meant as in it should look like a factory. I have four facilities: factory, farm, base and mine. They're all boxes made out of wood planks and cobblestone.
I wanted to make a classic, stereotypical factory with serrated triangular roof, brown brick chimneys etc. and have some nice plans about it, but when I start building it looks more like somebody put a fresh pile of shit in front of a fan and then stuck a branch to it's side.

THANK YOU! That was exactly the point. It wasn't meant to be the new Monkey Island, Mass Effect, or WOW. it was meant to be a throwback to early 90's machismo, gore, and tits. it was made to be a shot of pure nostalgia you could inject into your veins. And it did it wonderfully.

Just like Bioshock Infinite.
User avatar #11 - jeezloxxy (01/27/2014) [-]
I guess I shouldn't really take part in this, because I'm not really a fan of the franchise, but in my opinion Bioshock Infinite was one of the best games I've played. I never got around to finishing Bioshock 1, let alone the second one, because the story seemed dull and boring to me and while I got pretty into the whole atmosphere at first, the lack of interesting characters and story progression made me ditch the game right around the middle.
I played Bioshock Infinite with close to none expectations and I loved every part of it. Booker and Elizabeth's relationship was lovely.
User avatar #131 - animationhac (01/28/2014) [-]
The story to the game was amazing, I love it. HOWEVER, game play was very boring and sort of dull compared to bioshock 1. The playing of the game got repetitive and at most points, I only used one plasmid, and hardly had to change it. It was not an effective game for 'fun game play' at the least.

Give bioshock another try, the story is deep (for me) and the character back ground was so much better then infinite, sides, game play was also a ton better as well. It was so fun for me and it gave me options and kept me on edge.
#15 - kinginthenorth (01/27/2014) [-]
It's a 4/10 at most.
It's basically CoD with plasmids and a bit of railshooting.
Story's a mess (LIGHTHOUSES BOOKER) and Elizabeth is a plot thing that's irrelevant to gameplay and could essentially be replaced with a drone that opens door and gives supplies now and then.
The setting and story they hinted with the trailers was a whole lot more interesting than a flying 17th century Europe.
I was greatly disappointed when i bought it.

I recommend you finish the Second, since i didn't finish the first one either.
User avatar #85 - nigeltheoutlaw (01/27/2014) [-]
"Hey guys, I don't like something popular! Does that make me cool yet?"
#149 - kinginthenorth (01/28/2014) [-]
I explained why it's bad and you're just like "HEY, LET'S PRAISE IT AND IGNORE ALL ITS FLAWS"
You're exactly the kind of person that this thread is created for.
It's a really damn boring game when the story isn't doing/changing something. I bought it going off of the trailers, but they changed so much that the trailers don't apply anymore. It's what greatly disappointed me in it.
User avatar #151 - nigeltheoutlaw (01/28/2014) [-]
But you're painfully wrong. The gameplay isn't close to CoD aside from being an FPS, the story wasn't a mess or even that complicated, though I agree it wasn't that interesting, and the fact that you said "flying 17th century Europe" shows that you're too fucking retarded to have a decent opinion on anything.
#152 - kinginthenorth (01/28/2014) [-]
The explain to me what's so different of CoD's? Plasmids? It lacks variety and the only thing that actually changes the gunplay is the railings.
I never claimed the story was complicated. If only the people who praise it make it out to be "Highly philosophical" knew that.
And i thought of "Slavery" and then i thought of the Irish in their slums. Forgot that Irish people probably also migrated to America and thought of Europe.
#53 - anonymous (01/27/2014) [-]
17th century Europe?

Are you seriously retarded?

Columbia was ridiculously 20th century American, you jackass.

As for the rest of your idioit opinion.... No, there's just too much wrong with it to even correct. It's kind of obvious that you don't have a big eye for plot or characters in a game, which was the basis of Infinite.
#54 - kinginthenorth (01/27/2014) [-]
17th century europe also had slavery, and i suppose that's one wrong thing.
But i'd feared that calling it 20th century America would get me a lot more red thumbs and i didn't feel like that.

You're not even going to bother? That's a weak argument in a discussion. I can say the very same of "That anon's opinion is so retarded, i'm not even going to bother."
User avatar #113 - supervillian (01/28/2014) [-]

User avatar #32 - blokrokker (01/27/2014) [-]

User avatar #35 - kinginthenorth (01/27/2014) [-]
Based Yorrick.
Strange how such an unpopular opinion is kept at 0
I expected it to go to -500 quickly.
User avatar #46 - blokrokker (01/27/2014) [-]
I can't weigh in on your opinion because I've never even finished the first Bioshock, and I know my computer can't run Infinite.
User avatar #39 - captainfuckitall (01/27/2014) [-]
All opinions aside, the main reason I thumbed was for Yorrick. Never in my life have I met a skeleton so kickass (righteous and dedicated with just enough bad streaks to make him interesting. I can understand why so many people dislike him, considering his unyielding zeal and uncompromising positions, but it's really no different than Rorschach from Watchmen, and he was a fan favourite. I just think it's because his own zeal is directed toward religion that people got so butthurt about him).
User avatar #41 - kinginthenorth (01/27/2014) [-]
I understand that
Yorrick is pretty based. He isn't afraid of saying what he thinks and has the most fun attitude.
User avatar #17 - anenemy (01/27/2014) [-]
But it's fun, and the story had some pretty cool twists.
User avatar #26 - kinginthenorth (01/27/2014) [-]
The most fun part of it is perhaps the railshooting, but that's about it.
The rest is just a shooting gallery, with no more variety than CoD and even less variety in plasmids.

The only 3 twists that i recall is in the beginning when everything goes from sunshine and happiness to "Oh my, he's a bad guy!" (point where it turns into point-'n-shooty), the ending and perhaps Comstock's story, wich isn't really figured out until the ending, so it's not that much of a twist.
User avatar #27 - anenemy (01/27/2014) [-]
.....That's exactly what makes it a twist.

And who cares that it's a linear CoD-like shooting gallery? The reason why Call of Duty is so popular is because it's fun to play.
User avatar #31 - kinginthenorth (01/27/2014) [-]
A twist would be where the story takes a sudden turn in an unexpected direction. Comstock's twist was more of a "Hey, here's a hint: timefuckery happened. But you don't know what timefuckery."

The reason CoD is played, is because it's the game that markets to explosions and action scenes, something Bioshock really doesn't do nor deliver in. There were no fun plasmid combinations, the guns were pretty much the standard lineup of an automatic weapon, Sniper rifle, Rifle and pistol, all with Vox variations that add little. (not counting the chaingun, since it's an irregular weapon).
User avatar #16 - jeezloxxy (01/27/2014) [-]
I never watched any trailers nor had any previous hype about the franchise as I previously mentioned. So the only thing that affected my judgement on the game was the story, as most of the time it's the story that makes me stick with a game. Noted, the gameplay isn't anything super innovative or new, that's true, yet in my personal opinion the lockpicking showed a bit of an interaction between Booker and Elizabeth. I can see why some wouldn't really be fans of it, but I myself liked it.
I couldn't disagree more about Elizabeth's story arc, however. She was by far the most important thing in the game and everything circled around her. Not to mention her story personally made me feel attached to her, thus sharing Booker's drive to protect her no matter what. I have seldom felt so in sync with a character like DeWitt, as I saw myself how his feelings towards Elizabeth changed as the story progressed.
I can see your point about the gameplay, and I can agree to a certain extend, though personally I wouldn't call Elizabeth a "plot thing". I grew very fond of her.
User avatar #19 - kinginthenorth (01/27/2014) [-]
The trailer(s) hinted at Elizabeth partaking in the combat a lot more, while actually being exhausted from using her powers (wich didn't seem like timepowers, more in the way of "Bigger" plasmids) and actually looking like she was in danger and needing protection.
In the actual game, she got kind of irrelevant, as i didn't have to worry about her at all. Trailers hinted at a kind of "virtual reality" (personal speculation, the story was changed a lot in development, judging from the end product vs trailers) where things seemed to phase out or people seemed to be completely unbothered by a building that's obviously ruined and they'd just stand in it and clean the floor.

I won't deny that Elizabeth was interesting, the story was interesting and she lived up to it in what she did throughout the game, but in essence, she disappeared from the game when it wasn't in scripted events, cutscenes or when the story needed her to be there.
User avatar #20 - jeezloxxy (01/27/2014) [-]
I see your point now. Upon starting the game, I also thought Elizabeth would take part in the combat, yet I wasn't really let down when she didn't since I was too engulfed with the story. I'm glad now that I didn't watch any trailer before playing the game, because I would have probably expected more.
User avatar #21 - kinginthenorth (01/27/2014) [-]
They hinted at her being dynamic and actually offering occasions for plasmids synergy (ie she makes a thunder cloud, wich could then be electrocuted with a plasmid, so that all the enemies underneath it would get electrocuted), things like that. Wich is quite disappointing because i was expecting that kinda combat.

Ah well, glad we could keep it civil.

For once, jokexplain does not give a thorough answer.

The meme originates with a series of lego sets produced in the early-mid 90's called "Ice World". The sets featured many mini-figures wielding the aforementioned weapons or tools with orange transparent chainsaws integrated into them.

The awesomeness and ridiculousness of the notion did not escape the watchful eye of 4chan's /tg/ (traditional games) board and the makers of the lego-based tabletop strategy game, BrikWars. Among the two communities the orange transparent chainsaw became both a hilarious and revered item, because Lego is awesome.
#63 - jokexplain (01/25/2014) [-]
it is just a 'random' meme, of the relatively unpopular variety. it originated on 4chan.
the meme potential maybe lies in the fact that it looks hilariously unrealistic [why didn't they make the chainsaw plain grey?].
