Yearly reading of the scriptures

The text is made like that, with text on both sides

The monks flip them so they go almost like a slinky, while chanting

This way they keep to the tradition of reading the scriptures without actually reading them, so as to not be too attached to old teachings

Interesting. I think I'll make a bookmark out of that. Are you merely interested in this philosophy or do you go so far as to follow it?
Speaking of which, any chance you could gimme a Cliff's Notes of it?
#309 to #308 - kesolukt (06/12/2014) [-]
Never follow anything. Ever.
That's one of the messages of Discordianism, which makes it hilariously paradoxical. So I'm not sure how to answer your question, you see. But I find it highly interesting and entertaining, that answer shall do
What do you mean by Cliff's Notes?
User avatar #310 to #309 - atrocitustheking (06/12/2014) [-]
Quick, dirty overview. Just the basics. Like those books called "Cliff's Notes" that summarize the classics of literature. "Translating" Shakespeare and giving you all you'll likely need to know for a test without reading the hundreds of pages yourself.
#311 to #310 - kesolukt (06/12/2014) [-]
I was afraid that's what you meant, if you ever really get into it then you will understand why it's so hard to summarize. It's not just that there's a lot of material to summarize, rather it is that it is all so disorganized and chaotic. Also the presentation of the philosophy is a mix of parody of religion, symbolism and clever wordplay.
If you want a taste of it you can read the main holy scripture here, it's very short:

That sounds absolutely fascinating. I will be bookmarking this for future use.
I suppose with a name like "Discordianism" I shouldn't be surprised at anarchy. I mean, the very symbol is the apple of Eris. Looking back, that should have been obvious. :p
EIther way, I have to go, but I'll give this a look over and we can talk about it some more. Until then, take care and be well, friend.

So, been a while since we caught each other here. How're things?
#297 to #296 - kesolukt (06/11/2014) [-]
Things are well, back from college now which is nice
Just relaxing now

And you?
#298 to #297 - atrocitustheking (06/11/2014) [-]
Well, I took an entrance exam to a technical school, and I am happy to say that I nailed it! Greatest feeling in recent memory. Also got on Facebook a few days ago (after about a year or two off) and surprise surprise, it seems my friends haven't forgotten all about me. A silly thing to worry about, perhaps, but a worry unfounded.
It's kind of weird though, one of 'em married. Sort of hits home, you know? Holy shit, people my age are getting married! I'm not that old yet, am I? I don't feel old... lol.
#299 to #298 - kesolukt (06/11/2014) [-]
Awesome, congratz!
Hah, well that's nice
And some people get married at 18, so don't worry
Actually how old are ya?
#300 to #299 - atrocitustheking (06/11/2014) [-]
23. Friends getting married are around 25, I think. I mean, good Lord, I haven't even had a steady girlfriend before... I feel like I fell behind, in a strange way. Oh sure, I've had girlfriends and stuff, but only one of them was stable, like mentally stable.
Guh, I probably sound like some emo loser. Don't let my absent minded musing bring you down. Life is good for old Atrocitus (though the same cannot be said of my comic book namesake, ha ha). I'm happy and healthy, losing weight and my depression is lifting. Things are lookin' up!
#301 to #300 - kesolukt (06/11/2014) [-]
Rule of 23
Don't worry, I think you can wait a couple more years before worrying about that ^^
Heh, well I'm glad to hear it old friend
User avatar #302 to #301 - atrocitustheking (06/11/2014) [-]
Sorry about that, my 'net crapped out.
What's rule of 23?
#303 to #302 - kesolukt (06/11/2014) [-]
That's alright
Oh right it's called Law of Fives
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discordianism#Law_of_Fives
2+3 is 5 so 23 is also 5
User avatar #304 to #303 - atrocitustheking (06/12/2014) [-]
How on Earth did you happen upon this little tidbit? I recognize the symbol from your profile.

**konradkurze rolls 5**
does Atro deserve a happy ending
#273 - konradkurze (05/13/2014) [-]
like with the aliens...theyve always kept true to the theme...even as far as the first avp movie, the old queen was made 50% bigger as aliens DO get bigger over time....and much as prometheus had new shit...they could write that off as 'other aliens made by the space jockeys

with the predators...they went from them having small legs on their faces to having huge fucking facehugger legs on their faces and the creators saying "oh now theres a second species of predator"
User avatar #274 to #273 - atrocitustheking (05/14/2014) [-]
I actually didn't mind that new Predators movie.
User avatar #275 to #274 - konradkurze (05/14/2014) [-]
well it was good to watch but throwing in the new species of predator is a 'WTF'

the aliens books saying theres a mutant red breed of aliens is one thing, but spiderface predators is wtf
User avatar #276 to #275 - atrocitustheking (05/14/2014) [-]
See, I'm of the opposite opinion. A mutant breed that's only different in colour? That's retarded. A big bad super-predator on the other hand doesn't bother me.
Plus, I mean, we got to watch the Alpha Predator rip a fucker's spine out of his body. I'm not a violent person but holy shit, that was kind of awesome!
User avatar #277 to #276 - konradkurze (05/14/2014) [-]
well the red aliens were more aggressive but more sensitive to psychic powers and if their queen died the psychic feedback made them all fall over and have seizures

the predators however.....they kinda have a weak case...supposedly theyre meant to have no honor yet in the movie one accepted the swordfight challenge with the jap guy instead of just shooting him to shit
User avatar #279 to #277 - atrocitustheking (05/14/2014) [-]
HANG ON, how the fuck could you be a more aggressive xenomorph? Even they're god damn BLOOD is a weapon. They bite/rape first, and never get around to asking questions. How do you top a critter permanently in the "all guns blazing" mode in the aggression department?
User avatar #280 to #279 - konradkurze (05/14/2014) [-]
well id say the normal ones at least have a survival instinct, perhaps the red ones are 'fuck everything just attack" like real animals such as wolverines, badgers and tasmanian devils are

User avatar #281 to #280 - atrocitustheking (05/14/2014) [-]
I suppose there is that. I saw a wolverine just attack a full grown bear, for no god damn reason. It's not like it was (or even could) eat the damn thing.
I'm going to have to cut this convo short. I have to wake up early tomorrow.

User avatar #241 to #240 - atrocitustheking (03/25/2014) [-]
Ah spending money. I forgot what that felt like, ha ha ha ha.
User avatar #242 to #241 - frienderman (03/25/2014) [-]
Lol, I was having a rough winter term and went out to this Japanese place a few times with a friend to de-stress, and ended up realizing after the third or fourth time that I had almost blown all my money for that term.

But I'm still very gracious for what I have. Food, shelter, a loving family, higher education, wonderful friends, and a comfortable lifestyle.
User avatar #243 to #242 - atrocitustheking (03/25/2014) [-]
Indeed. That, my friend(erman) is the right attitude to have.
User avatar #244 to #243 - frienderman (03/25/2014) [-]
Quite. Some people are so disrespectful and unappreciative of their fortunate circumstances; it's atrocious. (I'm sorry) (I'm not sorry)
User avatar #245 to #244 - atrocitustheking (03/25/2014) [-]
Ha ha ha. Oh you.
You know, you might have told me, but I'm fascinated by these things and have an awful memory, but what's the significance (if any) behind your username? Does it say something about you, or is it a reference to something? I find it interesting as to the names and titles that we give ourselves. A weird sort of internet anthropology.

Well, it's actually a bit of an interesting story.

In Minecraft, before the 1.8 Adventure Update, there used to be a glitch where if you walked far enough away form the spawn (we're talking at least a year of in-game time. People usually accessed it by teleporting), you would see this huge weird wall thing, see pic. Beyond this point, the game got so glitchy that it was unplayable, and blocks stopped working. This place was called the farlands, and was the end of the Minecraft world map.

Fast forward, and Notch (the creator of Minecraft) was working on a new enemy for the game, a creature that was tall, black, skinny, and was really creepy. Some names were suggested like "farlander," but Notch chose to name it after the creepy end of the map and the creepy story of Slenderman. Thus, Enderman was born.

My name is just a joke off the the Enderman, since he attacks you in-game. I'm not an attacker. I'm just friendly

Oh yeah, I've read about that glitch. Crazy stuff.
User avatar #247 to #246 - frienderman (03/25/2014) [-]
ANYWAY how about your own name, then?
User avatar #257 to #247 - atrocitustheking (04/02/2014) [-]
Oh wow, totally didn't see this. As for me, I feel for the Atrocitus character. I feel like the guy has a completely justifiable reason for being the angriest dude in the universe. The king part comes from the fact that he once ruled a huge realm called the Empire of Tears, a vast kingdom that covered no less than three galaxies.
Also, I've got some anger issues of my own.

But who lives to give the command? Besides, I've my own troops to bring to bear.
User avatar #229 to #228 - konradkurze (03/23/2014) [-]
our commander is a major psyker who knows the will of our Lord...

plus you dont have millions of marines plus the power to destroy planets like we do
User avatar #230 to #229 - atrocitustheking (03/23/2014) [-]
Fair enough. I've got probably... a few dozen thousand... wait a minute... there weren't *millions* of marines! The Legions were around 10,000 in number.
User avatar #231 to #230 - konradkurze (03/23/2014) [-]
no, some legions just kept on recruiting
User avatar #232 to #231 - atrocitustheking (03/23/2014) [-]
But millions? [Citation needed]
User avatar #233 to #232 - konradkurze (03/23/2014) [-]
then again i wasnt talking about the legions in general, i was talking about my legion rebuilding by stealing millions of kids to crank out new marines
User avatar #224 - konradkurze (03/19/2014) [-]
