- The Schlieffen Plan. All was going well until the French manag…
You are correct, but this is a diagram showing Germany's Blitzkrieg offensive. They passed through Belgium to circumvent the Maginot line. In WW2 they met little resistance from the french. Unfortunately France's tank divisions were a sedentary force while Germany's was a very mobile force. Despite the fact that French tanks were arguably better than the German's, they were usually surrounded by enemy divisions before they could react. Hence Blitzkrieg "Lightning War".
and the one man tank turret was a disadvantage for the french
I agree, but all in all the French tanks were of a higher quality to the Germans'. The problem with the French is they deployed their divisions in a way that spread their power equally across the front. All the Germans had to do was break through in one spot and attack the french divisions from behind. Erwin Rommel has some great books written about him where he is described as a general who "leads from the front". He was right there with his divisions as they rocketed way past enemy lines. The German leadership was ballsy as fuck back in the day.
yeah it was but i remember that rommels being ballsy as he was caused quite some trouble for his own troops
and it is also weird that there is that overall picture that the french tanks were worth shit
Rommel's troops loved him, his commanding officers and the officers he was coordinating with hated him because they couldn't contact him while he was charging behind enemy lines. With respect to french tanks, they were good tanks by 1940 standards but by 1944 they were essentially useless.
the turret had a thicker armor was a smaller target and the french had bigger guns mounted, i know
but their tactics were less effitent and like i said the one man turret was another tactical disadvantage in combat
It is the Schlieffen Plan though...
Hm, It looks like I'm wrong. Interestingly enough though, the Schlieffen Plan and Hitler's Blitzkreig are identical war plans. The maps illustrating the two are essentially identical.
