However, I chose to alternate between a paralysis spell and an illusion spell that temporarily burns away a percentage of the target's health. Between the fall damage from such a large giant going limp, and the imaginary flames, I killed it within two minutes with some careful dodging and running.

Personally I never use fast travel anyway because I'm an idiot, and NO. Mods should not lock it out.
The idiots at Bethesda design the game so you have to use fast travel. One quest (If forget if it's thieve's guild of main) makes you go from Riften all the way to Solitude to talk to one effing NPC (who could have been placed anywhere they wanted), and then all the way back to Riften without doing anything else.
That's stupid, make less shitty games Bethesda.

While I understand the point of immersion, removing the option to fast travel entirelly seems too harsh for me, seems like the kind of thing that should remain an option because, hey, sometimes you just don't give enough of a fuck.
I am playing through Morrowind the first time, and I cannot fathon enough how enfuriating it is to take an hour to do anything because no fast travel, specially in Vivec, seriously fuck that town and everything that it stands for.

Some people are just that hardcore yo
I'm doing a "use fast travel as seldom as humanly possible" walkthrough, and even that is challenging enough. The boats and the carriages help immensely (I don't count them as fast travel) but even still traveling from place to place is a real chore sometimes.

I am talking about shit like, "I just spent 4 hours in Blackreach scouring the place, Falmer and Dwemer constructs made me twitchy and paranoid as fuck, screw walking, I just want the safety of a city..." kind of deal, I am okay with walking my way to places, but I just want to take a breathing moment after it is done.

Meh, it wasn't so bad, the only thing I missed in Morrowind (I played Skyrim and Oblivion before that) was the quest marker.
And Vivec was the dumbest, ugliest city I've ever been to in any video game. I stopped doing quests for Morag Tong at some point because they required coming back there, passing through those maze-like staircases to get another target.
Although I still think it wouldn't be so frustrating if the buildings looked fucking different. Because the only buildings different from one another were Vivec's palace and Baar Dau. Not to mention how it broke the feeling of the island's capitol, and one of the gods' settlement. Way to go, Bethesda. At least Almalexia's city looked good.

I am kinda managing quests there by making me near-immune to magic and using the Boots of Blinding Speed, it doesn't matter so much if I get lost because I can cross the entire place in 2 seconds anyway, but it still manages to be frustrating over how I have to check the map every step just to make sure I am going the right way because everything looks the freakin' same...
I am almost just dropping the entire thing and playing through Skyrim's Dragonborn again, I can get all my Dunmer needs satiated over there.

If you're frustrated with Morrowind's running speed, I recommend a mod for that on its nexus. I think it was called Run Faster. There are a few esp files to choose from, and different speed setups.
As for the game, my favorite part of it all was the Bloodmoon expansion. Despite having multiple issues with the game itself, I found it to be the best Elder Scrolls DLC of all. It also takes place on Solstheim, except this time you change the dusty wastelands for forests and tundra. So I recommend playing that, if you haven't already.
