B) that the neanderthals created that explosion, even accidentally

It could be possible that cold fusion occurred in an area around neanderthals, killing a group or more. But the idea that they caused it, or that it wiped all of them out seems like massive bullshit.

You misunderstand, it wasn't one Neanderthal at one mud puddle -- all the Neanderthals all accidentally made cold fusion at the same time, probably because they were all quantum entangled. However, you're correct that assumption B was made, but I'd say it's pretty safe to say that they caused it, otherwise it would be one crazy coincidence that it wasn't correlated.
