While I agree with what you're saying, canon is canon. Whether or not we like it, the canon is the movies and animated series.

My considerations are my own. I view Disney claiming their canon as canon about the same as I would view a man claiming my automobile as theirs.

That's not even comparable. You don't own Star Wars. You do own your car. The same way you can do anything you want with your car, they can do anything they want with Star Wars. It doesn't matter what your "considerations" are, they choose the canon.

But claiming Star Wars as something Disney alone controls is like saying that every single solitary part of a vehicle is from one source alone.

They want to sit there and deny the works of thousands for a pretty penny, no different than calling a new age Camaro all american(which they did) when it uses foreign parts(which they do).

They want to play a pick and choose, taking aliens, characters and tech not in the films from peoples books and comics, whilst telling them else to bugger off cos it's "Films Only".

Long and short of it is, they can claim all the claims in the world, but at the end of the day the most they've done is a couple cartoons I didn't care much for and contribute mickey Lukes and Donald Vaders.

I would sooner respect a fledgling fiction writers attempt to fit into the pre-derived canonical book works than accept Disney's works as canonical after they told all the writers that had canonical work to shove it up their arses.

Don't expect me to respect the decisions of a money grubbing company with a gameplan that runs along the lines of, 'Lets not actually work to fit in, lets make everything we don't agree with simply go away.'

I stand by the originals, not some jumped up little shits pandering to bairns. That all said, keep defending them, but I know most of the real fans are on my side.

But it doesn't matter. Disney owns it. If they decide to drag it though the mud, they can do that. Still doesn't matter. It isn't your property. You can't decided what is and isn't canon the same way I can't choose what type of oil you put in your car.

There have been books made that the whole of the fans didn't agree with.

They disappeared into obscurity.

There have been games that the fans loathed.

They were never considered to exist.

There are comics, claims, and ideas a plenty that have been shot down by the fans time and time again because they tried to change what the fans held to them as truth.

You think this will honestly be different. Sure, Disney has money, but all they want is profits. What happens when we start getting thirty Jar Jars a film? When everything being pumped out turns into PG-rated pre-teen pandering?

You think that as a whole the fanbase will stand for that?

You can slap a price on an idea, call it property all day long, and sell it to whomever you wish, who can change the idea all they like, but the original form is still there, and you can't stop it. from being there, and you can't stop people from believing it more than they do your new version of said idea, regardless of how much truth you claim sits behind your new version.

If Disney truly wants to make their works officially, unequivocally and indisputably canon, then they have one choice. Destroying everything that came before, and anything that will retain that knowledge.

They do not have the high ground in numbers, and they don't have the money to silence everyone who will talk.

At the end of the day what came before holds more fans then what they create now, and when the newer fans become vested and try to find the origins of certain races, and characters, and tech, they'll come crawling into what came before and realise exactly what Disney opted for.

Besides, there seems to be one thing you've failed to think about this whole time.

We're the fans, and we're going to believe what we want to.

So let 'em come and tell us we're to fall in line behind them. You think we're going to listen? To think that their money gives them the right to tell us what we're to consider 'truth' or 'canon'?

You also haven't even seen what they're going to do. You can't say what they're going to do is shit because you don't know. And yet-a-fucking-gain, I'm not saying it's a good idea or that it will last. I'm saying that you, as one person, can't stop it just because "you don't accept it". Also, you're the only person I've seen who has been so wholeheartedly against even waiting to see the movie before giving Disney shit. Also, it actually makes sense from their standpoint to do what they did, there was a lot to keep track of. Imagine trying to make a movie trilogy and having to use thirty years of lore that you didn't help create? I imagine it's nearly impossible. And they also didn't outright say that it will never be canon again, only that it isn't canon now. For all we know, it will be brought back as canon, with the exception of some things they might have gone against in the making of the movies.

And before you go off halfway reading what I said and twisting my words (which you've been doing this whole conversation), I'm not saying that IS their plan. I'm saying WE DON'T KNOW.

You bloody well said it yourself just now. There are thirty years of work that people have poured themselves into to create and expand upon that was all, up until Disney showed up. Considered canon! Thirty years of work that has been the truth, thirty years of fucking work that, if I had a hand in creating, would have had me livid to hear some upstart shits tell me isn't worth two shits any more.

You're right, mate, what they /may/ do could very well not be too bad, but what they have done is spit in the face of anyone and everyone that has ever had a hand in Star Wars outside of Lucas himself. That is why I won't stand by them, that is why I say they can get tossed. Because they have no respect for the work done, for the tales we've read, the expanses we've travelled in the fictions, the games we've played. They don't give two shits about us, the fans, because if they did they wouldn't be playing the game this way, they'd be pumping out the Yuuzhan Vong War or a film on the Old Republic, or even the original Sith War. They had options, and easy ones at that.

And hell, thirty years of work and I know highschool aged fiction writers that could easily find a place for their story, yet you're telling me Disney just can't? Not in the Old Republic? The New Republic? Live actions Clone Wars? A Empire based film(see TIE Fighter short film)?

You're telling me that Disney had to spit in the faces and disrespect thousands of people to figure out where to put a single arc of a story?

It's lazy, and it's pissant, and again, it is fucking disrespectful since they literally don't even have one of their own works out yet anyway.
