Unfortunately that's no true. They have a lot of pull at universities. I can't go a day without being told that if my partner and I are both drunk and have sex, I'm a rapist. There's also a sexual assault program at my university's Women's Building, but they refuse to allow men to schedule counseling appointments. Men are expected to talk to a third party therapist, or hope they get lucky and get in to see the general school counselor.

Then you tell them you paid your tuition and expect all the services that tuition paid for. Colleges and universities are supposed to have counseling services available to the entire student body. If they only provide counseling for women in a "Women's Building" then something is wrong. And by the way, ask them what kind of shit storm would occur if there were a dedicated "Men's Building".

They'd then proceed to ignore you and call you a misogynist pig.

These people can't be reasoned with, they can only be silenced before its too late, by whatever means are necessary.

There are FAR better degrees to have for anthropology. And you don't need a degree for journalism, you just need to know which dicks to suck.
User avatar #186 - artvandelay (09/21/2014) [-]
Well there are obviously better degrees for anthropology, i'm simply stating that if you had a real passion for gender studies, anthropology is a field in which you could find a job.

Fine, study whatever it is you love, but don't complain when you find out that there isn't a single job out there where your degree is relevant.
User avatar #478 - artvandelay (09/22/2014) [-]
Exactly.
User avatar #188 - itembox (09/21/2014) [-]
But your degree can help society and do good. To me that's what a college degree is for, getting a job in something you want to do that will benefit society no matter how you look at it, I imagine you're gonna make sure my water table is safe from pesticides and shit.

If you want to study something that will serve no purpose (or as recently, harm society) then you can study that stuff for free at a library.
User avatar #265 - fables (09/21/2014) [-]
that will benefit the society that doesn't want to help you pay for that education?
at least in the US

yeah fuck that shit. I'm gonna do what I love and society can go straight to hell.
#296 - itembox (09/21/2014) [-]
Benefit society so you feel good about your job, which btw pays for your food, hobbies, health, kids, ect.

As opposed to "yeah fuck that shit" degree in "studies" that states you spend 2-4 years studying something that's not applicable to a job.
Great you held off employment which every able bodied person has to do and you are now in debt (or wasted tax payer funds that could go to the non able bodied).

Good luck degrading society or telling people off because "they're not right" according to you. Thus making them miserable for doing what made them happy and helped others along the way.

I don't feel good about my job because it benefits society
I feel good about my job because I like what I do
I could work as a forest ranger
that doesn't benefit society. it benefits nature and wildlife
and I would love it.
herpetology doesn't benefit society. marine biology doesn't benefit society. zoology doesn't benefit society. the list goes on but you get my point.

and society is fucked. people spend all their time arguing about petty shit and dividing themselves and putting too much emphasis on clothing and money, rather than character
User avatar #304 - itembox (09/21/2014) [-]
Every single job you mentioned helps society.
Forest Ranger - protects the public, park, and wildlife for future generations
Herpetology - studies amphibians which are a good tell for the quality of both water and land quality where people live
Marine biology - protects the waters that give us 75% of our oxygen and a fair amount of our food
Zoology - classifies animals into their proper kingdoms and calssifies them (this can help in medical and engineering by copying their natural abilities and reproducing them).

Society is fucked up, and as a god damned human being its your responsibility to fix the shit others break, build the shit others won't, and sustain the shit that works.

The degrees in "studies" only state that you read a book and went to meetings of like minded people, Congrats on your degree in having existed.
User avatar #307 - fables (09/21/2014) [-]
it protects the park FROM society
if society wasn't so fucked, these jobs wouldn't even be necessary
#313 - itembox (09/21/2014) [-]
Are you fucking kidding me!
I'm over your shit, you pessimistic naysayer.
"Your overall goal as a park ranger is to ensure that visitors to the park are safe and happy, and that the natural environment is preserved. "

If you want to be a park ranger, be one. That was my dad's first plan as a young man, I damn well know what a park rangers job is.

Uh, gender studies won't let you spend your life doing something you love, unless you love being unemployed and living off of welfare.
User avatar #181 - artvandelay (09/21/2014) [-]
A degree in gender studies by itself might make it hard to find a job, however if you were very passionate about it, you could pair it with a degree in journalism or anthropology and finding a job wouldn't be nearly as hard.
What i'm trying to say is that no matter what you're interested it, there is a way to make a living doing it if you work hard enough.
User avatar #182 - heartlessrobot (09/21/2014) [-]
