Yeah, alcohol never helps. Using alcohol to make you feel better is like procrastinating. It might solve the problem temporarily by making you forget feelings (or lack thereof in your case?), but then they come rushing right back. You just gotta find a reason to live. I've had friends who have served in the army and they all say it can suck the soul right out of you if you're not careful. I would never last in the army, that's for sure. Too soft.

You have to find your own meaning. Like, for me, my students give my life meaning. I work as an elementary school teacher. I could be having the shittiest morning, be in the foulest mood, and by the end of the day I leave happy. Kids pick up on stuff like that, and they're good at finding ways to make you feel better, whether it's the handmade card saying "Your the BEST TEECHER EVER!!!" or the hugs, or the look of pride on their face when they get to present a project they've worked so hard to create. They give my life purpose and keep me sane. And having a purpose is not something that people have or don't have. Everyone can find meaning in their own life, you just have to MAKE it meaningful. It doesn't fall into your lap. I know plenty of teachers who find little to no meaning in teaching-- to them it's just a job, and they find meaning elsewhere.

There are a bunch of us here who also struggle with depression, but it sounds like you need real help. Go see a professional. Please.

I really just don't think a professional can help me. Most "professionals" around here will treat me as a person that is sad. Thats the thing. I feel no remorse but a lack of happiness. I really have no idea what it is. I'm just hoping theres a drug that can make me happy. Ive tried alcohol and it does nothing for me.
You dont have to worry about me killing myself, there are too many that depend on me. But if i get deployed I will probably opt for jobs like pointman or volunteer to search for I.E.D.s. There are guys here that want life, they deserve it more than I.

I mean, your not unattractive, everyone here generally feels that way. Its not about the picture its that theres nothing wrong with your appearance, so the only other major factor would be your personality. I know its hard to deal with, but maybe just try to take a more non bias approach
