How could they film all those cars and buildings being destroyed at such close range, without the camera also being wrecked?

the camera is inside some blastproof shit, and it's smaller and more aerodynamic, while the cars and buildings are not.

It doesn't have a name, (or if it does I can't find it, it probably only has a designation, though) however the standard size and power of nuclear bombs today is on par with or greater than the tsar.
#77 - brisineo (12/10/2015) [-]
>standard size of modern nukes today are greater than the tsar

My sources state that most modern nukes, especially the ones most often used in a nuclear war average around 500-800kt. Coming in groups of 2 or 3, and 90% of them are going to be aimed at nuclear silos and command centers. The larger scale bombs 20mt and greater are nearly impractical in weight and size.

I'm not saying that nukes larger than 50mt are impossible. Heck, the Tsar that was tested had an entire stage removed to halve it's potential yield. And Russia had that "leak" of the Status-6 100mt nuclear torpedo meant to create manmade tsunamis. I'm just saying they aren't very standard by any means and you're not very likely to see a boom that big unless the crucial first strike to disable nuclear capability falls short and the subsequent peace negotiations and/or conventional war go really, really terrible. My source for this being a current researcher of international nuclear strategy. Possibly have the idea confused with the commonly stated fact that average modern nukes are far, far more efficient than the original atom bombs, which averaged only 20kt.

yeah, but the other was natural, and GMOs have been known to cause problems, such as allergies, irritable bowel syndrome, etc.

its better not to do it so nobody faces bad side effects
#50 - juffs (12/10/2015) [-]
It's still not done in a lab. Creating a GMO basicaly consists of planting two different strains together, and then hoping that the offspring have the traits you want And then doing that over and over again for like 7 years
User avatar
#36 - herecomesjohnny (12/09/2015) [-]
GMO's are widely accepted and controlled since the late 90's, it's dangerous pesticides that are the furor nowadays
#28 - anon (12/09/2015) [-]
genetically modify a plant so that it resists herbicides and all the other nasty shits to kill every threats. Now you can flood your fields with poison and dioxine and eat the apple of snow white.
#24 - postalmate (12/09/2015) [-]
I don't have anything against GMOs. But one thing is us breeding out traits we dislike indirectly, fucking around with the DNA of a plant and reconfiguring/splicing RNA/DNA like it was lego bricks is a whole different game. We don't know so much about it, that is why researchers call for a bad on human genetics in 2015 and a bunch moralfag reasons too... .
User avatar
#27 - obanesforever (12/09/2015) [-]
GMOs are basically just natural selection without the randomness that comes with it.
User avatar
#26 - traycepickering (12/09/2015) [-]
Its actually safer to do it in a lab, rather than trying to crossbreed plants and just growing them hoping they don't turn into some super weed that everyone is allergic to. Selective breeding is way more of a random shot in the dark that actual genetics work.
#16 - anon (12/09/2015) [-]
cloning and altering plants is a lot different then splicing genes
User avatar
#20 - lean (12/09/2015) [-]
different quicker, and potentially riskier. The problem is the world is full of luddites.
User avatar
#21 - lean (12/09/2015) [-]
correction: splicing is quicker. Same result, one generation.
User avatar
#22 - IHaveADHD (12/09/2015) [-]
I believe the worry is that we don't know how these genes will 'behave' in the later generation.
But this may be more of a concern with bacteria than plants I'm kinda ignorant on the topic.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, I don't like looking like an idiot.
#30 - innocentbabies (12/09/2015) [-]
Like 26 said, there's really no difference, it just takes longer to get there if we selectively breed organisms. The gene's pretty much the same either way. Even in bacteria, which have ridiculous mutation and reproduction rates thereby making them far riskier , genetic modification has only had positive effects like the ability to produce human insulin for diabetics in a lab that I know of.
User avatar
#23 - lean (12/09/2015) [-]
Plants have relatively simple DNA structuring, and any gene splicing is done in controlled conditions and vetted before being made available commercially. 99% of it is to result in annual plants, so saving a portion of the harvest to reseed the next year results in poor growth. That's the biggest stink raised about a company like Monsanto. Realistically they just want the best crops that aren't self sustaining.
#15 - chikibriki (12/09/2015) [-]
people are flipping out over gmo's that are created from two completely different species. for example taking genes that makefireflies light up and putting them in a tobacco plant to make nirnroot

Also, because nitrates and gluten stopped being scary and stores needed a new "safe" product to sell you for twice the price. So they scared everyone shitless and started selling "GMO free" stuff. It's absurd, I've seen GMO-free salt. That is just............... I actually want to see non-GMO-free salt. Show me genetically modified salt.
#31 - innocentbabies (12/09/2015) [-]
Holy fucking shit.

I told you. They will slap that sign on EVERYTHING and sell it for twice the price. It makes me want to find whoever came up with that, give them a pat on the back for their genius and then kick them in the nuts so hard their grandchildren will walk funny.
#33 - innocentbabies (12/09/2015) [-]
Oh, believe me, I know. I still argue with my mom over her insistence on buying organic because that way there's no pesticides which are harmful to us, even though there's no evidence to suggest that the trace amounts of synthetic pesticides present on conventional produce is capable of having any effect, positive or negative, on the human body.

It's especially funny because she likes to use brown rice for a lot of things, because it's "healthier." All rice, especially that grown in the American South, where most rice produced in the US comes from, has significant levels of Arsenic. More than 80% of that is found in the bran/germ, which are not present in white rice.
User avatar
#34 - thechosentroll (12/09/2015) [-]
Yeah, reminds me of brown sugar. Which for some reason is more expensive than white sugar, even though brown sugar is plain old sugar that hasn't gone the final part of refining. It's literally faster, easier and cheaper to produce than white sugar, yet they sell that shit for more, becuase it's meant to be better how you. It's fucking SUGAR. There's no such thing as sugar that's good for you.

The Devil was once of the angels before he decided to abandon God and leave. God created him in a good purpose to help humans, but he rebelled and became what he is.
User avatar
#28 - rakogoki (12/09/2015) [-]
if its about free will, surly god would value humanity's well being over the bad decisions of a single angel right? eternal suffering/separation and all, thats a hell of a consequence for letting one guy fuck up when it can be so easily fixed.
and what admiralen said, god being all knowing and powerful created the universe knowing ahead of time every possible outcome for creating it in that way, so technically "free will" doesnt even exist.
User avatar
#29 - admiralen (12/09/2015) [-]
Especially considering he didnt give angels free will, free will was the reason he loved humans over angels
#24 - anon (12/09/2015) [-]
surely an all powerful god could have stopped him if he didnt want that to happen. or is the devil more powerful than god?
