N. Korean citizen (05/05/2013) [-] I'm pretty sure repostrepost's post was just a joke/troll post. Anyways, you have spoiled brats on the side of the uni-lingual anglophones, but in the US we have spoiled brats on the other side as well, i.e. immigrants who want to force citizens to adapt to THEM instead of , you know, the immigrants adapting to the country they're moving into. We also have those who move here for the free stuff many of the Dems like to whore out to them to essentially buy votes. We're stuck having to find a way to curb the spoiled brats on both sides. We're stuck having to find a way to streamline immigration while protecting our borders and sniffing out the cartels who regularly smuggle in guns and drugs. We're stuck dealing with idiots who think it's "racist" to protect our country's border in any way whatsoever. The US's immigration issues run deeper than many people think, but because politicians can gain from the situation they like to cry "OMG RACISM" to stop anything from being done. We take in immigrants on a point system; where you were born gets you a point, your language gets you a point, etc. Because all the old Quebecois people don't want to fuck and have many kids they discriminate foreign people and only pick those who speak french - destroying their cultural ties - so they can keep the anglophone population in check. Trust me. We have wayyy bigger issues with 'diversity' than you do (Quebec versus the rest of Canada). However, Canada as a while has dealt with it better than the united states and you can't deny that. | ||

| You can't blame him for associating eastern bloc-style regimes to socialism, these regimes constantly advertised themselves as socialist/communist to gather support from the masses and justify certain policies, the west advertised them as socialist/communist, but to defame socialism/communism. Either that. or people think socialism is social democracy, thanks to the european "socialists". | ||

stickandmove (04/24/2013) [-] I should've said extremists. Believing these woman represent the typical feminist is like believing suicide bombers accurately represent the Muslim faith. I don't see their 'cause' as being extreme though, they wish to have control over their own bodies, in this case, not being perceived as a sex object (being abstracted to genitalia). Perhaps they're being using shock value to bring attention to their cause. The opposite is also true: being thought of as just an apparatus to get off to is kind of sad because it ignores the rest of me as a person. Do you see what I'm getting at? #257

| It's just the extremists who want everyone to speak only french and shit. I can understand where they are coming from because of how hard they were exploited, historically. It's a really sensitive topic here because of how culturally different Quebec is and how we were 'betrayed' in the past, with the constitution, the Meech Lake Accord, Night of Long Knives, etc. As far as separatism goes, it would be possible, just not under the PQ model. I wouldn't want it because then Canada loses a great part of itself. Instead, I think the provinces should just try and integrate better - take the best parts of each and work together. The federal government has really failed to do that. Quebec is a great province and others could learn from it - just as Quebec could learn from other provinces. | ||

| Yeah! We're good like that, I think. I'm a unilingual anglophone so life in Quebec is weird. I'm stuck between my cultural ties and my political ones - both of which aren't really represented to begin with. People give Quebec a bad rep but despite all the shit I deal with I still love it and I still call it home. Every now and then you deal with the angry franco supremacist but it's really not comparable to how awesome the city is. It's just the extremists who want everyone to speak only french and shit. | I wouldn't really blame it on specific groups - I just think Toronto is the prime target for things like this due to it being the economic centre of Canada. In Canada, All roads lead to Toronto (I could say that we've only got on road so all roads lead to everywhere but uhhhh whatever). There is just a high level of exploited immigrants in Toronto which causes problems, just like most other cities. But the Canadian population is including more and more of these exploited people (which I think is a good thing, I like diversity, but conflict sucks). In Montreal we deal with linguistic issues and the mafia, but not terrorism. Yeah! We're good like that, I think. I'm a unilingual anglophone so life in Quebec is weird.
