And there's nothing inherently wrong with modifying approaches.

If we don't modify our theories, then it truly becomes an ideology - a system of closed ideas.
User avatar #36261 - arisaka (06/21/2013) [-]
Leninism was and is an ideology by doing just that, though. Marxism was never an ideology.

There is nothing wrong with modifying ideas. But when you change it radically enough to the point where it becomes a new thing completely... that's totally different. There's a reason Lenin was regarded as right-wing among the other socialists at the time. It's also the reason he got all butthurt and wrote a pamphlet about it.

His analysis of Russia, and the need for the vanguard party in general, was silly simply because Russia was never ready for it. It was totally out of context. And to try and apply that anywhere is impossible.

The spontaneous organization of people is where things start - you take it from there. And that is what was happening during Lenin's time, but then he hijacked the uprising and organization of workers, CRUSHED the soviets, and consolidated power in the bureaucracy.
User avatar #36266 - oxan (06/21/2013) [-]
Hijacked? The Bolsheviks had mass support. Later, Lenin wrote extensively about the dangers of bureaucracy.
User avatar #36270 - arisaka (06/21/2013) [-]
Which is exactly why he consolidated power and took it away from the soviets, right?

You can hijack a revolution because it is fuelled by feelings of love. It's not hard. It's actually happening in Syria right now.

1905, not 1917. Remember that.
User avatar #36279 - oxan (06/21/2013) [-]
There was a civil war, there was foreign intervention. Some soviets were turning to the counterrevolutionaries. Measures had to be taken becuase of extraordinary conditions.
User avatar #36281 - arisaka (06/21/2013) [-]
The revolution was forced like a bad shit, and you know it.

The only reason the got into power in the first place was because they used the war as leverage. "End the war", they said.
User avatar #36287 - oxan (06/21/2013) [-]
And they did actually end the war, unlike the provisional republic.
User avatar #36292 - arisaka (06/21/2013) [-]
Good for them, they followed up on something.

This does NOT take away from the fact that they slowly started taking more and more power away from the soviets. They should have taken the PROPER Marxist route and dissolved the power and let the workers councils run things democratically.

Or, let history take its actual course and LET THE COUNTRY ECONOMICALLY DEVELOP LIKE MARX HAD STATED A MILLION TIMES. The proletariat was almost non existent in Russia during the Bolshevik revolution. There were too few factories. Socialism would have never worked there anyways. Lenin couldn't see that. He was an okay dialectical materialist - but a politician he was till the day he fucking croaked.
User avatar #36303 - oxan (06/21/2013) [-]
>LET THE COUNTRY ECONOMICALLY DEVELOP LIKE MARX HAD STATED A MILLION TIMES

And the New Economic Policy was introduced to facilitate such a thing.

User avatar #36230 - arisaka (06/21/2013) [-]
Marx said he would have changed a lot about it but it had become a historical document so he left it unchanged.

Don't run to Marx, man. Use your own words.

Depends where you go! All my weird encounters have been close (but not inside) Chinatown, ranging from an obese stripper pulling out her boobs and screaming to tripped out skateboarder taking off his clothes and asking me to rub his nipples.

I love the city, though.

My friend who was almost my cousin owns a bunch of guns, Including a world war 2 era lee-enfield and a trench gun, as well as a cool hunting bow. I've shot them all except the trench gun.

I don't have any guns due to my mom saying "not until you move out" but I also don't have any because I lack a compulsive need to hoard guns thinking rifles will actually do shit all against the armoured division of an army

Historically the word gun refers to large-bore weapons, not small arms.

I then moved on to a lesser preferred set of weapons, which WERE small arms

My brother had a bunch of friends over during the week when my parents were gone. It was awful because everyone made a mess and tracked dirt in the house. My parents were using the time as a "trial run" to see if I could stay alone (I want to stay alone in new york this summer) and I basically had to scrub everything and clean everything all week because he had them over more than once

it was the worst. Fuck parties
