Would you hire someone without skills at $7.25 an hour? No. The cost to train them is too high. That is why you see job openings requiring experience. Abolish Minimum wage, and we can get people trained, and become skilled workers where they can move onto better paying positions.

What if we just added a clause saying that if someone does not have the required experience, it is legal to pay less than the minimum wage (which the employee would be made aware of) for a certain period of time or until the work was on par with others.
User avatar #60057 - thatguyontheright (03/22/2014) [-]
Thats pretty sensible. Ok, but say Temps are allowed to be paid less than minimum, and you can be paid above minimum once you are trained and hired in...what would stop them from firing you so they don't hire you in? Use you like a tool and discard you later for a new model.

Couldn't that be solved by worker's unions?
User avatar #60071 - thatguyontheright (03/22/2014) [-]
To allow employers to pay less than minimum, we'd have to bust the unions. which is why several right wing politicians are for busting unions.

Because some people aren't able to find work at the minimum wage, either because they have low skill, a bad reputation, or are unfortunate enough to be in a group that's discriminated against.

Having a lower legal minimum wage doesn't mean actual wages decrease....
User avatar #59837 - arisaka (03/18/2014) [-]
The reason people fought for a minimum wage was because it was ridiculously low when there wasn't one. If companies will be more likely to hire people if they have to pay them less, then by all means, they will do so.

And either way dude, if they don't want to fucking work as it is what the hell makes you think just because someone might be willing to hire them for a shittier pay than before they'll jump at the oppertunity?

No I am trying to say that IF GW exists then we will HAVE to adapt anyways because its ALREADY happening. We can start going green now but what are you going to do when Greenland is flooded? Recycle? No your going to adapt to survive. It will take decades before we mitigate the effects of GW. Its already to late just to rely on fixing the planet.
