i would say it like that:
i got no clue. seriously. but i go with the usual "the easiest explanation usually is the right." so at some point, and i like logic and science, i just come up where i get the feeling that accepting "well, god did it" seems the most logical.
especially with the paradox... because life and the universe are paradox. so why wouldnt god be a paradox for humans too?
but i would step away from that fatherly old bearded figure that people (especially christians) have made up of god. i would see it more like "the universal cause" behind everything, something one cant really explain. like laotse would say about the tao. or the old greeks about "the alpha and omega": something like that.

i didnt mean i want to argue about it right now. i also never said it was right/wrong.

just generally i think its an interesting topic. for example the definition of darwins evolutionary theory are kind of wrong and many new theories that are called "evolution" by the common people technically are newer theories. also there are quite some discrepancies which are interesting to talk about. like for example certain animals or plants which behaviour or anatomy can not be explained by evolution as it is stated by darwin. other interesting side notions has come with epigenetics.

or the other way round: the technical idea of theologists. that god created everything. like, were the creatures created the way they are now? or could one argue that the mechanics of evolution are what god has created? other questions sceince hasnt been able to explain so far, like for example how the first membrane came together. its pretty cool i think.

or if you're into physics: there are like 12 or 15 constand values in the universe, with most of them having to be like that and even the slightest change would have made the universe impossible to exist as a materialistic realm. much less life forms to exist as we know it. how come these values are exactly like that?
i just think its a really interesting thing to talk about.

Remember how you said people don't have a clue about science to discuss this stuff? Well you basically described yourself with that completely ignorant comment.
#134 - kanedam (01/06/2015) [-]
how come? please elaborate
User avatar #135 - kanadetenshi (01/06/2015) [-]
The claim that certain behaviour or anatomy cannot be explained by evolution which is a very ignorant statement considering all physiological, anatomical and behavioral features in organisms are by defacto a result of your genetic markers and as such can be easily described by natural selection. Also the modern darwinian evolutionary theory which is defined by natural selection and mendelian genetics is the only evolutionary theory. Newer theories on evolution are generally very vague hypotheses or blatant pseudoscience.

Also the evolution of membranes is well established if you bothered to actually learn biology which you seemed to claim to know so much off.

Also the fine-tuning argument is old and debunked. The whole constant value argument is based on complete ignorance and incredulity. Basically we do not know if this constant is the only constant that would've allowed the universe to exist, for all we know different constants could've formed all different kinds of material and even make life more flourishing. Aside from that the universe being 99.99999% completely uninhabitable makes me definitely question if it was made by an anthropomorphic god.

1) darwinian evolution theory declares that organisms change over very long time periods and in very very small steps. each generation being almost the same as the one before. but there are certain incidents in world history that show a tremendous variety of species appearing in a very short timeframe. many biologists try to find out how that happened and if evolution can happen much faster (as in a few generations opposed to a long time as stated in darwings theory). A famous example of evolution maybe happening faster is the research at mcgill university about fish learning to walk on land.
2) there is a famous frog (went extinct in the last few years from all i know) that had such a strange method of raising its babys that it was in contradiction to "slow and small adaptions" as there were 5 key factors needed for the uprising to work. if one wasnt present the children would die. the very first time the frog used this tactic all 5 factors must have been already in place. (i can search up the details about that one...) there are also some plants with complex mechanics in getting the pollen on insects...

3) about the membrane: no it isnt. it is to this day one of the most interesting questions how the very first membrane formed. you can go to any professor or top researcher and they will say its one of the big mysterys of biology. (just like in physics its still not clear why gravity works and how it does. the causes are known, but not the reason). there are many hypothesis, but no theories on that topic.

4) if you give me source on the fine-tuning being debunked i might believe you. for i have heard about that from top scientists (like the gravity constant, or the electric load of electrons, if one of those was slightly different matter could not form or wouldnt have spread in the bigbang).

i'm not saying there is a god, i say there are interesting questions in science open that i like to talk about. we can pm if you want.

1). Darwinian evolution is the change of the genetic frequency over generations in populations. It doesn't say anything about slow gradual change, change can be slow but it can also go extremely quick under environmental pressure. The assumption that Darwinian evolution and Darwin himself was completely gradualist and step-foot is a common misconception.

2). I assume you're talking about the Gastric-brooding Frog. A fascinating species indeed. But it doesn't require this irreducible complexity like you claim. For example Darwin's Frog uses a similar method when they protect their eggs until they hatch, this is just an educated guess but it would've been likely that the GBF used a similar method, which eventually became more advantageous to hide in the stomach. Of course the ones who already may have had the ability to shut down digestive juices would have the best chance to get these eggs to survive. This may have eventually evolved to become a feature were the tadpoles themselves are best fit to survive in these stomachs. The problem with the claim that you need to have these specific features for it to work is making the assumptions that said features may not already have existed for a different role and may just have ended up being adapted for a different one.

3). The origin of cellular membranes are a hypothesis. But the evolution is not. en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Structural_Biochemistry/The_Evolution_of_Membranes

4). There are many different arguments against the fine-tuning argument made by different cosmologists. But my point is not one based on any source but rather based on challenging the claim that this one constant is the only constant that could have created life. We don't know what other possible constants could make since we never witnessed them, we can only speculate.

Physics is not my strong point but if you have questions about biology feel free to talk to me any day.

Ok then. Lets talk about it from a philosophical perspective. I don't get angry at people for looking for answers to the great questions. It is natural for people to feel spiritual, even atheists. For example I find great comfort in the fact that I don't think anyone is watching over me or has some grand plan for my life. My decisions are my own. Life is not a chess game wherein I am a pawn. Life is a card game and if there is a god he is a dealer whos only job is to ensure everyone's hand is equally random.
