| #147 - Can some please tell me why people tell Christians they are w… [+] (19 new replies) | 05/23/2012 on Aliens > God | +7 |
| The reason people tell Christians they are wrong is because Christians provably make untruthful claims, and some of them promote those claims to be taught as fact to children who aren't old enough to arm themselves against fallacious misinformation. Also, Christianity is a hateful religion filled with homophobia, bigotry, sexism, racism and immoral teachings. Now, Christians are provably wrong, and the book they claim to be the completely true word of god is also provably wrong. However, the idea of a God overall cannot be disproven. The idea of a creator of the universe who doesn't interfere with human affairs or even care, cannot be disproven. Does that mean we should believe it? No, look up unfalsifiable hypotheses for more information. People who believe in this 'god' are called Deists. You never see anyone attacking deists, and that's because they are not claiming anything impossible, immoral, cruel, or just plain stupid. tl;dr People attack Christians because Christianity is stupid and mean. #186

N. Korean citizen (05/23/2012) [-] Wait, wasn't Jesus actually a person? And I remember reading somewhere that there actually was a massive flood like in Noah's Ark. I forget what point i was trying to make. #204
-
moosic (05/23/2012) [-] Only an idiot would say that there was never a historical figure named Jesus. On a separate note, there may have been a large flood in the area of Jerusalem when the old testament was being written, but whether or not it was a worldwide flood or just a larger flood than usual (the Tigris and Euphrates rivers flooded quite often) is anyone's guess. Jesus actually said himself that he came ''not to spread peace'' but ''with a sword''. He also said that none of the old testament rules were repealed. And as I actually said in my original post, you can't disprove A God, but you can disprove the CHRISTIAN God, because if the Christian God was the real one, and the Bible was his word- as it is reported to be- then it should have no mistakes, and it does. If you wanted me to list them all, you'd have a list which went of for a heck of a long time. You can find some examples at Skeptics Annotated Bible .com I'm assuming that they're from the old testament. I'm not one of those "old testament means nothing" type of person, but the whole point of Jesus was to change the laws of God and show what the religion of Christianity is all about. God would've never sent Jesus if he wanted his "policy" to remain the same. #210

N. Korean citizen (05/23/2012) [-] Nope. The Bible is the word of God as interpreted by man. Thus, incorrect. There are many, many different versions, and many, many different ways to interpret passages. Also, i find it funny how some Atheists toss that out while bashing religion, like it's not complete hypocrisy. #240

scousaj (05/23/2012) [-] I'm not exactly sure how it's hypocrisy... I don't promote/condone violence, and anything/anyone that does is a "bad person" per se. Now sure, the Bible promotes a lot of peace, and I actually think that religion has a lot of good fundamental points. To address(?) your point on that the Bible is the "word of God, as interpreted by man"... Well surely GOD would make sure that his word is perfect, like Mortspear said. Also, I've read that chapter (which mentions the killing other religious prophets) in many different versions and they same the same thing, more or less. Finally, to answer Mortspear's point, please correct me if I'm wrong; but I do believe that Jesus was sent to Earth to try and rid people of their sins.... Also, one thing that bugs me is if GOD is Christian (as Christians would have you believe) then why was Jesus a Jew? Just something that I can never get my head around... please enlighten me. You're right, he did come to rid people of their sins. Somewhere in Matthew, Jesus says "I did not come to destroy the law, but to fulfill them." Which is meaning he isn't saying everything God told you not to do in the OT is alright now, but to show that everyone deserves the opportunity of choice, which is totally different from the God you saw in the OT (See the story of Noah). To the God being Christian statement, this is strictly my opinion, so don't take it personal, but first God has no religion, he is the religion. I was never sure if Jesus was called a Jew because of the region he was born, or his religious preferences. I've always seen it as Jesus being a Jew, and following his death began the religion of Christianity.

N. Korean citizen (05/20/2012) [-] Are you questioning the information in the Bible ?! You are going to hell Christfag logic Goddamnit....okay first atheists don't believe in evolution, that's not a staple of atheism. If you believe it personally than fine, but atheism is simply "Refuting the existence of a god with the lack of evidence provided" Also god could have done that, fine, first prove god exists.

KungFuZerO (05/09/2012) [-] I will try to do this as briefly as possible We evolved from a common ancestor as modern chimpanzees. The reason we took a different path from them was the environment we lived in, the resources available to us, the dangers around us, etc. Take for example the finches studied by Charles Darwin The ones that lived near berries had smaller, weaker beaks, while the ones that lived near nuts had bigger, stronger beaks. The ones the lived near nuts that had small and weak beaks died out and could not pass on the genetic material for small beaks. the same happened with humans. In our environment, predicted to be south africa, it was hot, so we didn't need a lot of hair (fur), and there were larger predators, so we needed to run faster (2 legs over 4), and the lack of trees made opposable toes and tails unnecessary Vestigial organs in our bodies prove we once used them, like the tail bone.

KungFuZerO (05/09/2012) [-] *sigh* have u read anything about evolution ever? We ARE animals. humans are animals. people learn that in like the second grade and we didn't evolve from the animals we see today so that statement makes no sense please tell me you are trolling... I know we are animals it's just i meant other animals like reptiles and shit like that. If we didnt evolve from the animals we see today then please explain how they got here. I'm ignorant to evolution so if you could explain that would be nice #14
