"When it's needed to.". Explain how it is needed to. Explain what the addition of a new word contributes to society.
From where I'm standing, it provides little to no posetive benefits and packs a handful of negative ones with it, the least of which is to annoy people like me and the dude below, and a slightly bigger of which is to segregate people and invent now buzz-words which some shit-stags will be afraid to say.

"We need words like gay or trans, because that denotes something which deviates from the norm"
But we do have a word that defines the norm in orientation, with "straight" which is accepted. So the idea of a word like cis is not entirely absurd to me.

But I'm not sure how it turned into such a failure, I just blame sjw snowflakes for butchering it.
User avatar #132 - anahbell (08/29/2014) [-]
Okay, say there are two people standing infront of you and your friend introduces them as, "This is my friend Jerry, he's transgender.. and this is my friend Alice.. she's normal." ..That, that's not the right way of going about it. Given, introducing people with their genders slapped to it is also a little a unorthodox but you can see how that just sounds bad, right? Or am I the only one who would take offense from that. If you were on the topic of genders and were explaining them to someone, you wouldn't use 'normal' in place of 'cisgender' because transpeople.. they also fit into the category of normal. Even in the topic of gender they also fit 'normal'.. different yes, but normal also yes.. maybe to someone on the outside it would seem abnormal and I do explain it as so, but to them it's completely normal and it's their life.
..and
Only because people have made it that way, to most people the word cisgender has no negative meanings or tie-ins and those who understand that use it freely like using transgender or anything else. You see, I feel like the tumblrettes and femnazis are winning in places they don't even realize and those people don't realize it's influenced them either. They've ruined a regular word used to describe a person and everyone just willingly walked right in and went along with it and now it's a bad word. I'll never understand that.
User avatar #145 - krobeles (08/29/2014) [-]
I find your example to be lacking. Even if my friend just went up and was like " "This is my friend Jerry, he's transgender" and there was no Alive, that alone would wierd me out. What the fuck of concern is it to me, that Jerry is transgender?
Although I do see your point, somewhat atleast. In your example, it did sound a bit dodgey.

User avatar #146 - anahbell (08/29/2014) [-]
I'm saying if someone asks, I even mentioned that in my previous post. "Given, introducing people with their genders slapped to it is also a little a unorthodox". I'm saying that nobody does that but if someone asked either out of curiosity or concern or whatever.. you'd refer to your friend Alice as Cisgender rather than normal, especially if it's in context with someone else who was transgender like Jerry, for instance.
User avatar #161 - krobeles (08/29/2014) [-]
Nah. I would probably just use the word normal, actually. Jerry asked and I answered. No reason to sugar coat bullshit, when you can just say stuff like it is.
Being called normal, and by proxxy being insinuated that you aren't normal, is neither good nor ill. I have Aspergers and have a great deal of time I went around and obsessed over being "Normal". It was a great concern of mine that I wasn't and that none of my friends were "Normal". Only did it occur to me that normality is bullshit, when I got enrolled in a "Normal" school, and I realised how fucked up and stupid the suposed "Normal" people were.
My point is, the sooner we expose to the imagenary divide between normality and un-normality, the sooner they'll see that that divide is bullshit, get over themselves. I dont care either way if people refer to as being normal or as an Aspergers-person or whatever. Its no concern of mine, because I dont accept that there is a divide between those two goups of people.
User avatar #163 - anahbell (08/29/2014) [-]
It's not sugarcoating anything it's called common courtesy but call it what you like. You see, you and I are alike.. I'm transgender, so calling someone cisgender 'normal' and someone transgender either 'abnormal' or just not using it there too.. would offend me. Then again, that's the internet. We're all offended at least once or twice so I don't expect anything less. But I digress, it's common courtesy and after hearing what you have to say about your struggle with the word it brings me to believe you've developed a complex based around using it and being called by it so I'm taking this time to back down from the topic. I don't want to explain my point if it's not going to reach it's target. I can understand wanting to be referred to as normal, but I wouldn't make such a big deal out of it because for you.. you don't have the word 'abnormal' plastered across your forehead for having Aspergers. Transfolk like myself though.. it's sometimes a little harder to hide so for us it's more of a problem. But I digress again, I think normalcy is overrated anyway. It's boring.

User avatar #142 - incest (08/29/2014) [-]
I understand completely what you're saying, but the word still comes out of left field for me.

I feel as if you wouldn't really need to denote the fact that someone is cis, because if they weren't, you'd say so. "Cis" is default. Y'know?

Also, I thought those in the trans-community would rather be identified as the gender they identify with rather than being introduced as trans. **Just what I thought, not at all based from any sort of fact
User avatar #147 - anahbell (08/29/2014) [-]
You're right, the word cis is a default and expected thing of every person (hopefully) but just like transpeople wanting to be called by their pronouns rather than 'trans' this and that.. it's all just a matter of dichotomizing people. It doesn't even really have to be said, but if someone asks.. rather than saying "Oh, he's normal.." say, "He's cisgendered." But this wouldn't only be super important if it was in context with someone who was transgender and like I said, not out of the blue.. but only if someone asks. Maybe it's all just a matter of opinion, who knows. It's just a matter of who believes what and all that, this was my opinion on it.

For me atleast, it has little to do with what people have made it, and more to do with the absurdity of the word to begin with.
We need words like gay or trans, because that denotes something which deviates from the norm. If you're a person who enjoys his/her gender and are attracted to people of the opposite gender, then you're just not normal. Why invent a new word, when we've been useing Normal for hundreds of years and it denotes the same thing?

Some people mistake this notion to mean that if you describe normal people as normal, then that will discriminate against the gays and the trans, "because if they're not normal they're bad!!" or something along those lines. Thats fucking stupid. Normal isn't inherently better than not-normal, and if anyone mistaken jumps to that conclusion, then I honestly think that the problem lines with the people who jump to such conclusions.
User avatar #148 - dumerveil (08/29/2014) [-]
I don't see the your logic. Why does the word heterosexual exist? Straight people are just normal.
User avatar #117 - anahbell (08/29/2014) [-]
And I understand that it's abnormal to be anything other than cisgendered, believe me I do.. but I sort of agree that using normal in place of it sounds sort of offensive, even if we understand what you mean. If you break the word cisgender down to it's etymology it's basically just a descriptive word and the opposite of transgender. And the suffix of 'cis' goes back into Latin roots so it's not as new as you may think, though the combined word 'cisgender' wasn't fully introduced until the early 90's. I personally feel it's a necessity to have different dichotomies like this rather than using 'normal' because normal is such a broad term and honestly doesn't explain much when it's needed to.
User avatar #125 - krobeles (08/29/2014) [-]

Yeah, thank you too.

One of the things i dislike the most about FJ is the hate on Tumblr. I hate those feminazis and supposed SJW like everyone here does, they're total retards.

But when people also give them shit for overreacting to stuff and making a big deal out of small things, I just wonder why. It's like we're supposed to not care about things that aren't our family, job, money, etc.
User avatar #106 - anahbell (08/29/2014) [-]
Also it's like.. not all of tumblr is full of femnazis.. theres honestly a ton of room on the website where that stuff doesn't happen but it seems FJ only cares about the femnazi part. Literally the SJWs and tumblrettes give the website a bad name.

Well. It may be a while on the progress. I had a problem with my flashdrive in which I kept all my progress. Long story short. It corrupted. So, I may have to start over.. OR I'll have to search high and low for my backups that I cannot find anywhere at this given moment.

I'm pretty pissed to say the least

Well, since the Witch from L4D really interests me I know, I'm a ******* pleb for getting it for free I started to write about here. Nothing I'm really planning to show to the world, more to practise for longer stories. Also, since english isn't my first language, it is even harder for me. It basically goes like that:

Plane taking off. Dude is happy they managed to get on board. Other dude not so happy, realizing they will be in deep **** for the rest of their lives. Small argument, plane explodes. Plane crashes.

Then my main char appears in the story. His entire body hurts and he can barely breathe. He's leaning against a rocky wall. It was midnight, and then moon shining bright. He saw the plane wreck several meters away from him, leading him to the conclusion someone must have saved him. It was then he hears someone crying. Turning his head to the side he could spot a female looking figure, slumped down to her knees, crying. Since his entire body is extremely hurting and he was so short on breath the head turn exhausted him so much he lost consciousness, again.

There's more, but I keep rewriting what comes after that since I can't come up with something good enough.

I personally think it isn't very good... but let's hear what you have to say since you have more experience with writing.

I have a girlfriend lol, I just loved the fact that at least someone noticed me on this site
and I felt like playing along with this mysterious person. It's not like everyday someone says they have a little crush on me =p
