| #232 - Their punishment is being in jail. You can't go around and tak… [+] (6 new replies) | 11/21/2014 on Unpopular | +14 |
| If we don't get to decide, who does? Of course that statement in and of itself is wrong regardless, because we, as a society, implemented the jail system and manipulate it accordingly. We already decided once, why can't we decide again? I believe in an eye for an eye, would you rape if you knew you would be raped? Would you kill if you knew you would be killed? I am in favor of harsher punishments for many criminals, including the death penalty for many different things. Not just for "punishment", but because if someone is dead they can't kill, rape, or molest again. Those criminal tendencies in that extreme is not a switch that can just be turned off, so why risk it at all? Deciding something as a society and deciding something individually are two completely different matters. Doing it as a society requires a consensus where a huge majority agrees. However when a single or a small group of individuals does it, the decision is based completely on personal and objective opinions which are bound to be different from person to person. If everyone acts on these opinions you will have everyone pushing into different directions and chaos ensues. To your idea of mirror punishment however, despite what some of what you describe ceases being just simple punishment and goes full on torture, you have to take into account that the judicial system CAN make mistakes. It isn't unheard of people who were executed and then found to be innocent. Would you sentence someone to be raped, tortured, killed, etc. knowing there is ALWAYS the possibility he might be innocent? As for would I sentence somone to punishment KNOWING they were innocent, no. But by your logic we should let everyone go, regardless of whether they are a rapist, murder, pedophile, etc, just in case one of them is innocent. We are talking about something with MILLIONS of numbers, obviously there will be some innocent people incorrectly punished. And some people who are perfectly healthy won't wake up tomorrow, and someone will develop an allergy to a food despite eating that food often, and someone will win the lottery, and a rich guy will lose everything, and a man will cheat on his wife, etc. We play the numbers game, because society is just a series of numbers. X amount of people vote for or are in favor of Y, which makes Z change to U, blahblahblah. Thats how it works. My logic is about reaching a compromise. I accept that some innocents will be punished, because as I have said, the judicial system does make mistakes. We obviously cannot release them if they are found guilty, but killing and/or plainly torturing innocents, even if those cases are a minority, is not acceptable either in my point of view. I believe jails are an acceptable compromise. Bad people get punished, and some innocents will too, but they will not die or undergo a traumatic experience (at least under the command of the law.) But we have reached a consensus. You yourself said so, prison rape is commonly accepted as an expected part of the punishment that is being imprisoned, so much so it is a part of everyday jokes, TV shows, etc. Enough of us accept it that it IS accepted. YOU are the minority. It is just another part of the whole that makes prison an unwanted event, which curtails some crime. Not all obviously, but many parts add up to one whole. We don't go out of our way to encourage it, but we accept and expect it. However this said consensus still causes a shitstorm whenever it is spoken of. If you want that to be known as consensus, then it should be made official by law. That's why law exists, to prevent disorder within societies. Despite whether or not people accept it and expect it, if you want it done as a punishment, then make it be sentenced and executed by a court, and not by some random horny inmate that wants to buttfuck someone. | ||

| That was beautiful and sad all at the same time. Silk works always looked too much like maggots for me. I'm still scarred from the maggot story. Now that I think of it, yeah they do look kinda freaky... Back then I thought they were the shit though. The part where they made the cocoons was the best. I didn't mind waiting the whole year so I could sit there and watch that shit for hours straight. Yeah it's so cool to finally see something emerge from the cocoon, and it's even better to let them free. Sad, but rewarding. | ||

discardedslinky (11/20/2014) [-] I'm not saying I would kill it. I'm just saying it makes no sense to fear something that can be destroyed easily and hold no threat to you. Trust me I use to raise moths when I was little. I love caterpillars, and I use to catch some and then take care of them, and they always turned into moths. < Picture is the caterpillars That takes me back to when I used to raise silkworms as a little kid... Started out with just a handful of them that me and my grandfather found, next year I showed them to my friends and a week later everyone had one or two that came from the dozens that hatched from my initial population. Eventually it all wore off, and the ones I hat I had left must have died of disease since they just stopped eating until they died. Ah well... It was good while it lasted. That was beautiful and sad all at the same time. Silk works always looked too much like maggots for me. I'm still scarred from the maggot story. Now that I think of it, yeah they do look kinda freaky... Back then I thought they were the shit though. The part where they made the cocoons was the best. I have a moth in my house that will fly onto my hand and watch TV with me every night...I named him Jeffery.

| i disagree, I think right now is when the tide turns. Toph finally proves to the world that that Kuvira's Earth Kingdom is actually able to be beaten, then they start floundering, the world united against her, at which point, her spirit vine weaponisation is operational and the tide turns again Wouldn't make much sense for it to turn now. Kuvira's best weapon, the spirit vines, hasn't been developed yet. Introducing that and then ignoring it would be like introducing the Death Star and then having the rebels defeat the Empire without ever facing it in Star Wars. Even if Toph manages to kick her out of her swamp, she will escape with at least enough samples to weaponize it. #26 -
unaniwanimous (11/17/2014) [-] I wish you we're wrong, I would love to see Toph kick ass where Korra failed. Toph will be defeated by the airships she cant see and captured. But in the final episodes she and her girls will fuck up a huge portion of Kuvira's army evn tho they are heavily outnumbered. im from the future probably should have put the im from the future part on top of the post and the sneak preview in a spoiler but you can go fuck yourself So would I, but not even the mighty Toph can bend armor made of plot. On the bright side, if she's captured or something that could be a reason to put Zuko and Katara back on the story. I want to see what's left of the old gang reunited before it's all over.

| Honestly, whatever comes to mind. One is a poem of a man trying to get out of the friend zone Another is a short story about his inner termoil about death and is there indeed an afterlife Another is a story of a eccentric mage to constantly flees royal guards by using unconventional methods of magic That was fun to write... Another has a man taking in a space alien slave child. Mainly to explore the concept of Slavery in Modern America and how I think it may play out Perhaps my favorite would have to be a poem of a man who all but lost hope in his life but pleads the reader to not follow his footsteps. I would but sadly that one is lost to the void, my previous computer crashed along with the story. All twenty pages. I do have the first chapter BUT that is all backstory. I have been meaning to re-write it but when something like that happens it just drains it out of ya. I had a lot of fun writing that too. The Duke who wanted him dead was a drug addict and had constant hallucinations. In case you ever consider posting them, I'd read the fuck out of that one. Just saying. | ||
