That nearly got me beaten up several times as a kid, then the LOTR movies came out.

You could easily get the same effect from Mass Effect by removing the limiter. A bunch of relationships in which the characters are for the player but the relationships overlapping one another is not addressed whatsoever.

It's something that should warrant SOME dialogue at least; being polygamous is a conscious lifestyle choice after all so having some characters aware of the situation makes it feel fresh and alive. Instead it just feels like they misplaced some code and instead of a limit you're free to do whatever rather than a conscious design choice and as such people are reaching for it as if it's revolutionary.

That's not the criterion for domesticated animals. Both cats and dogs have had several cases of them failing to survive without an owner, but both animals have large feral communities all around the world.

The word feral exists for the very reason that domesticated animals can survive on their own for several generations.
