I believe you're wrong. Firstly, i know the scriptures about the future is pretty drastic (the trees & stones will get the ability to talk and say "here's a jew, come kill" etc) but the quaran also states to never kill and to only do good.
In short, Islam has more contradictions in its texts than christianity or other religions.
In the first few hundred pages, Mohammad says the jews are a friendly and nice people. Later, he says they're the scum of the earth.

I think terrorists and extremists rely more on scriptures outside quaran than in, thus making the religion only an excuse for their cause.

The scriptures they use are pasages like:
Quran (2:191-193) - "And kill them wherever you find them, and turn them out from where they have turned you out. And Al-Fitnah [disbelief or unrest] is worse than killing...
but if they desist, then lo! Allah is forgiving and merciful. And fight them until there is no more Fitnah [disbelief and worshipping of others along with Allah] and worship is for Allah alone. Quran (2:216) - "Fighting is prescribed for you, and ye dislike it. But it is possible that ye dislike a thing which is good for you, and that ye love a thing which is bad for you. But Allah knoweth, and ye know not."

Quran (3:56) - "As to those who reject faith, I will punish them with terrible agony in this world and in the Hereafter, nor will they have anyone to help."

This is NOT the language of a peaceful religion. Unlike the passages of violence in the Old Testament, they are open ended. The passages in the Old Testament about enacting violence has context and has definite closure to the violence. The Quran just wants you to kill all who don't accept Allah and will go to war to prove it.
