In the world of pokemon, there's nothing that can't be taken down with the right preparation.

In this case, focus sash, endeavor, quick attack would do the trick.

Ghost type

I'm talking about to knock out the level 999 Rattata.

A ghost type pokemon wouldn't be a perfect counter because it learns bite at level 10..

If you have a pokemon with focus sash (or sturdy), you can easily take out dat rattata with endeavor to bring its hp down to 1 after taking the first hit, and then K.O.ing it with priority quick attack.

But since rattata learns quick attack to, it might be better to go with a smeargle. Smeargle can learn Spore, Extreme Speed, Endure and Endeavor.

Give smeargle a focus sash, rattata uses a godly powerful attack, brings smeargle down to 1 hp, smeargle uses endeavor, brings rattata down to 1 hp, then smeargle uses extreme speed to out prioritize rattata, and Joey's top tier rattata gets beaten by a level 5 smeargle.

Smeargle > Focus Sash > Spore > Endeavor > Extreme speed

The battle is under the assumption that you have 6 pokemon and Joey has one level 999. First pokemon could be anything with leech seed and focus sash, after he's seeded, you just have to pull off focus sash and endeavor and the level 999 rattata would fall.

I don't know why you're getting thumbed down but it's just What if it has quick attack or a multi-hit attack it's a lvl 999 rattata anything is possible :P

Fuck the haters, I love Pokémon mechanics and RPG discussions in general. I loved this conversation and wish I was good enough at battling to have that sort of plan in mind.

I already addressed the whole quick attack. Also, I'm making this under the assumption that the movesets of the pokemon stay the same. In anycase, whimsicott lead solves the problem of a rattata with a multi hit attack, give it focus sash, and it'll survive a quick attack, and since it has trickster, it can use a prioritized leech seed before rattata gets a chance to use his multi hitter. Or even if you stun spore the rattata, it'd be pretty severely crippled, and give you multiple chances to take him out.

Ratatta recieves no multi-hitters though, and it'd be stupider than it already is now to discuss a hypothetical situation where Ratatta has access to an unlimited movepool due to him being level 999.

But it would make since that if someone hack Rattata to lvl 999 they would hack the moves

I"m basing my side off of a hypothetical situation where Joey somehow managed to level his Ratatta to level 999 by simply ignoring the level cap.

But wait the Coup de grâce of this, In the hypothetical situation shown about it's Gen 2

well clearly I was putting the battle in context of Gen 5 haha.

But you're right, that battle is gen 2, but given he's only allowed 1 full restore per pokemon like all elite 4 members, it's very possible to stall him out with sand storm, focus sash and protect. Sand storm takes out 1/16th per turn, after 15 turns he'd have to use full restore, then you just have to survive another 16 turns for him to fall.

Ttar lead brings out perm sand storm, give him a focus band, teach him protect. First move he uses protect, next move endure, then protect, and rattata's down 3/16th's of his health. Protect had better chances to work consecutively back then, so a couple protects, switching between ghost pokemon to soak the normal attacks, it's still possible to take him down with enough patience and a 6 pokemon arsenal.

Give me the Spec's of the full team and then i will decide

6 t-tars with endure, focus band and protect attempting a 29 move stall out.

You have a 49% or 74% chance of winning depending on how well protect works

actually, considering we would also have access to items, that would make this a 100% win chance if you keep using revives and full restores until Joey goes through his one full restore and gets stalled out by sand.
