That's just the most recent content, I'm not digging for his oldest.

All medieval weapons were reasonably light, maces were about 4 pounds. It was about speed not weight. Also, halberds were literally for common foot soldiers, knights use pollaxes or a bec de corbin.
#31 - gisuar (12/21/2014) [-]
why would you write bec de corbin if you could just call it raven's beak?
User avatar #35 - galanorth (12/21/2014) [-]
Well for one, because it translates to crow's beak not raven's beak. And second, people often think of just the spike when they hear "crow's beak", but when you say bec de corbin they will think of the whole weapon. I've never been a fan of using foreign words for no reason, but in this case there is a reason. Plus most people here don't know what a bec de corbin is, so if they google it the Wikipedia page is titled "Bec de corbin", so there will be no confusion.

Modern terminology for medieval and renaissance weapons is so inconsistent anyways, no one will ever agree on anything.

It's about momentum. Read "Mace Etiquette." It's in Skyrim.
#6 - Not using a halberd for the reach, or an axe for practicality.  [+] (6 new replies) 12/20/2014 on the pc master race +6

Halberds can be broken and both it and the axe can go dull, a mace is always ready and never breaks.
User avatar #9 - allinthelegs (12/20/2014) [-]
Maces need an edge as well, or you have to be incredibly strong to wield one effectively. Maces can also bend and break, depending on the metal and the care one gives them
