I just woke up about half an hour ago, so bad wording is more than likely, I even had to rewrite this sentence 4 times. I apologize for the inconvenience.
Please do keep in mind that there are also studies, according to which, children with tendency towards violent / destructive behavior are more likely to play more violent games than those that do not have such tendencies. In case you fail to see my point, I will elaborate: Videogames do not necessarily make people violent, but instead, violent tendencies might, or might not, be detected according to the persons preference in videogames.

consider the following: have movies/shows/radio programs depicting violence in any way shape or form ever caused some one to commit an act of violence in real life? no. have books depicting violence in any way shape or form ever caused some one to commit an act of violence in real life? no.
have paintings? no.stories? again, no. do physical sports cause violence? no, but violent people are more likely to play them
did roman gladiatorial battles encourage people to go on mass murdering sprees? no, and they probably rioted less than they do for modern sports.
are hunters, people who literally kill other life forms for amusement, more likely to hurt anybody when not hunting? no
there has never been any link between violence and any form of entertainment, why would video games be any different?
and one thing you so ignorantly left out is that in most video games the violence is justified and done for a good cause and in the ones where it isn't there are clear repercussions.

well.. thats not entierly true.. Natural born killers seemed to be a great inspiration for the Columbine shooters and didden't they find Rampage in the guys from the north hollywood shootout dvd player?

That's a valid point but that disproves what you're trying to say, take GTA V for example. You can buy and sell property and work for a living just fine, we just choose to go on heists and murder the crap out of everyone. It's not the game's fault, all it does is simulate reality

Video games dont make people killers
Every person has the ability to kill
Since befor jebus people killed other people
Its hardwired in every person to kill or be killed fight or flight
Cavemen fought over stupid sht
Gangsters fight for stupid sht
People always kill

>"You are still making the decision to burn people. Those people may not be real, but the players are."
It would seem that you are the one who is having trouble distinguishing between fantasy and reality as no people are burned within games because people don't exist withing games. All which exist are the illusions, the puppets controlled through the input manipulated by people.
Nonetheless, while I disagree with you, your argument is still a rational one and I respect the legitimacy of your opinion.

Okay, I get that people have already just torn you apart, and while I do partially see your point, you also have a lot of problems in your assumptions. Just think of how many millions and millions of people play violent video games. Quite a lot, wouldn't you agree? Now, do we have millions and millions of hyperviolent desensitized killers within that same group of people? No, we don't. The ones that DO become that way usually seem to be coincidental connections. If it isn't a coincidence and the games truly have had an influence in causing them to snap, the great likelihood is that there was something already wrong with the person that was going to lead them toward that path anyway. Again, it's about the difference between reality and fantasy. People are "willing to make that decision" because it has absolutely zero consequence. Nobody is being harmed. The only thing that is happening out of it is causing the pixels on the screen to change and the sounds to be played. No person is hurt or killed, no buildings are destroyed. It is simply fantasy, and enjoyment. If these games actually had an effect on reality, then yes, it would be disturbing if people would still make those kinds of choices. But the fact of the matter is that they don't. What you do in a video game does not affect reality, and SHOULD not affect your personality or way of thinking. If it does, that's on the person, not the game.

Let me give you a quick related lesson in Psychology.
There are 2 arguments against your position that can be covered by psych.
1) Personality is ingrained in us from the day we are born and varies little through out our lives, one theory states. Everything we do whether it is ordering a meal or playing a video game is based off of and differs by our personality. So your suggestion about video games changing us is incorrect.
2) Video games can be compared to sexual fantasies. Both are alternate realities that satisfy our urges whether they are basic or complex. Both are also means of exploring our interests and desires. At the same time both video games and fantasies are not real and most of the time don't have to be and won't be. Saying that because a person fantasizes about an activity or plays a video game that simulates one will cause them to do that activity irl is ridiculous. If that were true that 10% of men would be rapists and 7% would be pedophiles because 1 in 10 men have rape fantasies and 7 in 100 men have some type of attraction towards children and that would be completely unrealistic.

They don't mind "burning people" alive because they are aware they are neither "people" or "alive".
Whenever I kill someone in a video-game I do it because I know it will not harm anyone or have any direct consequences in the real world. I can be a homicidal maniac in GTA or Saints Row, but meanwhile I sometimes feel bad when I beat someone too hard over multiplayer games as I keep in mind that there is actually a real person on the other side who's probably pissed off as hell.
I do agree that video games can incite dangerous behaviors, but that will only happen if the person in question cannot distinguish between a virtual world and the real world, which means that there was already something wrong with the said person's mental health.

I was watching some Ryse: Son of Rome on Youtube the other day and goddamn, the new consoles have some power behind them. Felt like I was watching a movie.
As for the past thirty years of gaming, there is no argument for violence whatsoever because it's not realistic enough and not played through virtual reality. Just saying that it may become a problem sometime in the future. I agree with everything you've said, just trying to add my own thoughts.

I disagree with you on feeling bad for beating someone in multiplayer. Sure, there is a real person on the other end, but you have to realize that it is but a game. They won't die no matter how many times they lose, so there is no cause to bear any moral guilt for winning. I'd even say that ruthlessly beating someone gives them an opportunity to deal with defeat and the reality that one cannot win every battle they fight. One must pick oneself up and keep fighting, no matter how bleak the past was.

One is a game, and one is real life.
"people" in games are not people. They're characters. It's the same as killing a pawn in chess
See, the thing is, gamers are quite well aware of the difference between real life and games.
The media and the worried parents aren't
They're the ones we should worry about
