I have this problem where despite the fact that I exceed at pretty much any job you could give me, and I honestly believe that I could do almost any job better than your average joe, that I'm still under qualified for everything.

It's like, in my world, I'm better than pretty much everyone and I'm still a worthless piece of shit.

It's not a very good attitude to have when you'd like to get hired someplace.

Well having the ability is one thing, but the work ethic is another. While of course I think I can do a job better than my peer I don't prance in with that attitude. Something I learned is not to treat it as though the workplace would add to your resume, but what you can contribute to your workplace.

Are you referring to something that would land me a job easily right out of college, or something to do ASAP?
User avatar #5814 - alexanderbyte (07/18/2014) [-]
Somewhere in between. Start getting a part-time job, because getting hired for a job isn't just being qualified, but having work ethic. If not, try internships.

I was good at everything in high school. :\

I also failed to mention that I'm double majoring in Philosophy and Astrophysics.

Astrophysics sounds a bit more useful, something like NASA could use you. In the meantime how about you try learning a skill that could help you? Do something so that you have a steady source of income, then worry about relationships. Be able to support a place of your own to live along with the people in it.

Definitely best to do it in person. Possibly even around one of the people in charge, that way they'll also hear your opinion and if things do go sour they'll be there to see her do it.

Have you confronted her in a positive way? Maybe showing her that you appreciate how well she does her job will inspire her to be a better person. Maybe not, but it's worth a shot if it hasn't been tried before?
User avatar #5749 - alexanderbyte (07/18/2014) [-]
I have tried being friendly, letting her have her space and the like, but she has made it clear she doesn't like me and has little regard for my words.

I am very willing to give her a second chance with regards to kindness, but I don't think she would accept it. Right now my deal is finding a way to confront her. Right now I could text her but in my opinion that isn't the best way to have this conversation.

If you're a commanding officer, that means that she has to listen to you if she wants to stay in JROTC, right? If you do have the power to make that decision or to get the decision to kick her out made, maybe you should remind her of that.

Alternatively, there's always the option to tolerate her. It may not be the best thing to do, but until some other opportunity presents itself it's still not the worst option.
User avatar #5705 - alexanderbyte (07/18/2014) [-]
Sadly, I do not have the power to kick her out of the program. At the very most, if she continues to be a problem, right now I could recommend she be fired from her position, but she is really damn good at her job and I don't think I could replace her too easily. I'd much rather she be squared away than I having to replace her. Respect is kind of low at the moment, and I hope to increase respect for the staff by being a tactful, effective, and firm group of cadets, something I fear she would interfere with.

Tolerating her will not be an option, because her lack of tact is an obstacle in my reform of the unit. If worst comes to worst and she does not improve with my warnings there will be consequences for her, I will have her fired.
