I was also referring to the poor Irish that immigrated to America, I know for a fact that some (like my great grandfather) some did come over wealthy and remained successful.

Ireland today has about 2 million people, I believe. It had WAY more than that prior to the formation of America, and far more than that before things like the potato famine and some of the persecution from the British who feared that they would revolt against their control. And in much of early America, since most of the original colonists were British, there was a great deal of persecution here in America. Yeah, the natives were screwed over, but the Irish were screwed over pretty bad, too.

Now in one of your other comments you say to name how many Irish are around compared to Native Americans.
Sir in Ireland there is a population of 5 million, yet there are as many blacks and other ethnicities in Ireland as the actual Irish. In the US there are roughly 2.97 million according to the US census. That's just in the US, that does not include the millions that live in Latin America or Canada.
So believe it or not there are more Native Americans than Irish

The Native Americans were offered schooling, and most of the hostility between them and the Americans originated with Native Americans refusing to compromise with the American government. There are numerous books written on the subject, and some autobiographies. One autobiography in particular became an HBO film. Believe it or not Native Americans were offered schooling and the opportunity to go to college. I go to the University of Arizona est. in 1885 and some of the first students were Native Americans. The problem was whether or not they took advantage of the opportunities offered to them of which they refused because they didn't want to "sell out to the white man"
In the film I mentioned earlier the author tells about how he went to school. His father assimilated into white culture; had a good job where he made enough money to afford a house and to pay for his son to go to medical school. The author WAS A NATIVE AMERICAN! He went to Harvard (yes this is in the 1800s). He married a rich white woman, and could have gone to private practice but opted to be the doctor the reservation for his native Sioux.
From what he described the Natives were actually given a lot, but chose to refuse the compromise. He thought the Sioux were stupid because the Americans were going to give them great land to live, but they didn't want to. This is a time where it was illegal for a black man to kiss a white woman; Native Americans were allowed to go to school, they went to college, the US attempted numerous times to establish peaceful relations (and many tribes did btw) but the problem was the Natives refused to give in. Many of them grew violent and the author says they were the fools. They couldn't beat America and America offered them a lot! But they just refused.

First of all, the Irish were unwelcome in America, many being assaulted constantly. Yes it is a fact that the Irish had to form gangs in order to prevent themselves from being attacked and even KILLED by people just because they were Irish. Many employers refused to hire the Irish and many premises refused service to the Irish as well. The only jobs the Irish could acquire were the most dangerous jobs that people wouldn't allow slaves to do because they were too dangerous. In their opinion the Irish were expendable and less valuable than slaves. No sir you did not misread that, people actually considered the Irish to be lower than slaves in America.
The Irish mainly worked those dangerous jobs, costing limbs and lives. Many Irish lived in small apartments with several other families. They only got paid a penny a day, and if they were late they didn't get paid at all. The Irish were literally slaves in America. The main reason why America even let them into the US was because the Union needed soldiers for the Civil War, which alone cost hundreds of thousands of Irish to lose their lives.
Contrary to your belief NO THEY DID NOT HAVE HOPE! They only had a better chance to survive, and one of the only reasons why they even managed to get it a little better was because they fought tooth and nail for equality in America, which was still better than the suffering, famine and disease they had back in Ireland

Sure, only few people have the privilege of taking Irish Studies, take the initiative to do more research on Irish history, or even privileged enough to have grandparents and up to tell them biased stories. It wasn't until the twentieth century that Ireland gained independence from the British Empire.
Don't get me wrong, what the Native Americans experienced (especially in the Spanish colonies, but also in other European colonies, the independent Latin American countries, the US, and Canada) was definitely worse than what the Irish went through, but the suffering experienced by the Irish is still nothing to laugh about in comparison.

Yeah, and during slavery, the Irish were taken over as slaves, but they were called "indentured servants", and they were supposedly "paid" for their work, but never ended up seeing any money. They were treated just as bad if not worse than the black slaves (the black slaves would often steal stuff from their owners and blame it on the Irish), and they experienced some pretty serious injustice at the hands of the British, but you never hear about it because they're white. That's the entire point of this comic. People only get upset about racism if the person isn't white. A form of racism in itself.

That's only a small percentage of the Irish, too. So many more blacks and natives suffered compared to the number of irish that did.

Ireland today has about 2 million people, I believe. It had WAY more than that prior to the formation of America, and far more than that before things like the potato famine and some of the persecution from the British who feared that they would revolt against their control. And in much of early America, since most of the original colonists were British, there was a great deal of persecution here in America. Yeah, the natives were screwed over, but the Irish were screwed over pretty bad, too.

The only 3 things I've heard about Irish are potato famine, British Rule, and treatment from others.

Hmm....Disease spread in their land, kicked out of their land (not tricked, kicked out, which is worse), Can't trust the government, slave work, forced out of their religion, constant WARS (BLOODY WARS with other tribes and the Whites)....you really aren't doing good at convincing me that Irish suffered MORE than Natives or Blacks. (that was the point of my comment after all lol...)

That's because Irish people aren't a separate race. Whites, Browns, Yellows, Tans, Blacks, Orange.

... so then you are saying that all jamaicans are the same as africans? After all, they're black. And that all Japanese people are the same as Chinese people. There's huge differences. Culturally and historically. Irish and the English descend from two different groups of people. The Celts for the Irish, and the Anglos and Saxons for the English. And there's HUGE differences in different groups of white people, just because one group of whites wasn't being persecuted, doesn't mean none of them were. Your race is MUCH more than the color of your skin...

There's your mistake. African isn't a race. It's an ethnicity. Being BLACK is a race. Race is inherently just the tone of your skin.

Yah but the Irish weren't forced out of their homes. I'm aware of Britain setting up land lords and making the Irish farm for them, and the potato famine. But they still had homes, and they had hope in America. The Irish weren't even treated as badly as the Italians were, either. And worst than african americans in civil rights movement? Come on now..

For the Natives, they found the land first but were kicked out. They suffered from diseases spread by the whites. They trusted the government on numerous occasions to give them land, but the government always pushed them even farther.

Not saying it was as bad as the Native Americans, or the black slaves, but the Irish were given labor that people wouldn't let slaves do because it was so dangerous or so damaging to the worker since the slave were worth more than the considered the Irish. Digging ditches and canals were done by the Irish because it would have worn out the slaves and made them "worthless"

And I agree with you, Jad. The Irish did have to suffer. No one deserves to suffer like the Irish did. But my argument is on comparing it to the sufferings of Blacks and Natives (and Italians but that's for another time) ;)

I was also referring to the poor Irish that immigrated to America, I know for a fact that some (like my great grandfather) some did come over wealthy and remained successful.

again you're speaking of a smaller percentage of Irishmen. That number is nothing compared to the number of blacks and Natives that suffered.

Did i not explain already that they had the opportunity to go to America while Natives and Africans had no where to go because they were either taken by force or had their land taken from them without much of a chance of surviving. (I know Irish had their land taken but they still were able to work and have food) and I said earlier, hope.

Blacks and Natives however suffered so many years of torture. It took one of the most influential people in the world to help the blacks. Natives got practically wiped off (with many left but not as much).

Just answer the question of how many Irish people are alive now compared to the number of natives alive. Hmm?
