Being corrected is never about want. It's about need.
If you're wrong and someone corrects you, you should try not to get mad. Sure, we hate being wrong, but somebody has taken time out of their day to make sure you're right in future, even if they've been a total dick about it.
When it comes to spelling and grammar, it's the lack of effort that bugs me. Anybody who thinks it should be socially acceptable to type like a handicapped person deserves to be educated, or at least shot. That kind of attitude could run our society into the ground.

Every culture of every time period has had this fear creep up at some point. Today it's Japan's worry of losing Kanji due to cell phones, America's laziness on grammar and word usage, etc(only languages I'm learning atm). To me, Language is intended to convey a message. Short lines like that do exactly what the person was intended to convey: A dismissive "okay". If that is not the kind of person you want to associate yourself with, then all the better.
I completely agree with what you said in line #2, and I've helped quite a few people with their English. It's fun to speak with people across the world and see the troubles they come across with languages. I can also understand why it can be frustrating to always be corrected.
I'm not asking how it should be - I'm asking what exactly are people asking for with that sentence.
