#125 - You would probably stop a .22 maybe a 380 but that's about it.  [+] (4 new replies) 02/10/2015 on Dumbass 0

It should stand up to a 9mm as well which are pretty common. It may or may not be able to withstand a .45. The bullet travels slower but carries more momentum. It would also depend on the sword. If it is a well made sword, it will be made of some very high quality steel and be about 1/8" thick which, if it hit the correct part of the blade, would block a standard .45 but all of of this is ridiculous anyway.

I actually just watched a video of one being shot by a .45. It split the bullet really well but that dudes still getting shot

Lol, I'm sure. That is why this whole concept has bothered me. While it is cool looking, it seems like If you are fast enough to cut a bullet in mid flight, you could probably dodge it or block it or something.

Ha myth busters did this one. The got a guy to cut an airport bb in half but that's about 300 fps where the slowest pistol calibers are around 700

Youtube videos of people fast enough to cut bullets with swords? Any links?
#174 - kez (02/11/2015) [-]
Nothing is fast enough to cut a bullet other than possibley another robot.

Some people can predict where the bullets tragectory and cut it by swinging before the gun is fired though.

Link for proof

No people shooting stationary blades. There's a myth the Davy Crockett (american frontiersman who died at the Alamo) threw an ax into a tree shoot the edge, split the bullet and killed 2 squirrels with the single bullet. You can see reenactments of this feat at a lot of cowboy action shooting events or on YouTube.

I trust you can see how somebody swinging a sword might be different than a stationary sword.
#134 - achmedmuhammed (02/10/2015) [-]
Not very, the time it takes for a bullet to pass through the edge of a blade is very minimal and the energy imparted on the bullet also very small. Most pistol calibers travel at at least the speed of sound while exiting the chamber and the only difference swinging the blade would make would be the blade angle relative to the bullet. Personally I think a sword, being much lighter and more brittle than the axe, would probably break.

>>#132 seems to show otherwise.

But, we're talking about a steel object impacting the bullet, swung by somebody fast enough to SWING AT BULLETS. Hit almost anything with something else going at similar speeds and it changes direction. Hell, that's the entire premise of the sport of baseball/cricket/softball.
#141 - achmedmuhammed (02/10/2015) [-]
Ha I just watched it. Dudes still getting shot in the gut. I'm surprised it held up so well. I've shot a lot of shit in my life.

Nah, dude, look at the distance between the holes. That's easily the shoulder width of a person. All it would take for Super Fast Sword Man is the right stance, assuming the super fast swing itself doesn't simply deflect the slug halves.
#146 - achmedmuhammed (02/10/2015) [-]
Yes but our sword swinger made the mistake of cutting horizontally leaving one half to skim over his head and the other to hit him in the gut.

Again, hitting things with other things.

Also, this is Lupin III, which has notoriously sketchy animation despite being really awesome. So, I'd chalk it up to that, too.
#148 - achmedmuhammed (02/10/2015) [-]
Either way I'd like to see someone willing to try this. It's only possible in cartoons.

Well, there is a guy who can cut airsoft pellets.

But, yeah, naturally I was arguing from the assumption that there was somebody fast enough to cut a slug speeding towards them. There is (probably) no such person.
#152 - achmedmuhammed (02/10/2015) [-]
I've seen him and its impressive but you gotta remember out of an air soft pistol the bb travels at max 300-400fps. I have 10mm, 1180fps, .38 754fps, .40 1180, 9mm 1140, .380 1000fps, .357 1500fps, and .45 1000fps.

#154 - schneidend (02/10/2015) [-]
Yeah, I know airsoft pellets don't go as fast. I even said there's nobody fast enough to cut an actual slug in the second sentence.

#133 - schneidend (02/10/2015) [-]
Neat. Though, that kinda proves my point. The gap is large enough for the bullets to go around a person, and the sword isn't even swinging into the path of the bullet.

I think that would depend on the caliber of the bullet and gun being used to fire it.

I heard cash doesn't get split because often they can pocket the cash and lie about how much they got, but the computer typically tallies up the total charged amount of tips and distributes it at payroll or some shit evenly
