know what an incubus is? was a synonym for vampire (during a certain time period at least, though even sometimes now it's the same thing)... if memory serves right (which it probably doesn't) lot of stories about it between 1600-1800

now while most of the vampires out of the movies im listing below are attractive, they didnt use they're sex to lure people somewhere

an incubus is a female demon, associated with sex and lust, it entraps men and kills them during sex, she would then provcede to mutilate and devour his body leaving his soul to rot in hell. just letting you know, what you are thinking of is the victorian style vampire, much like the incubus it not only drank blood they were known to suck the life force out of people, they were also associated with sex, as was much focus in those days.

An incubus is a small subset of vampires. Anything that steals life-energy is a vampire and a incubus certainly does this.

there's many variations on vampires, some times they're demons, sometimes they're undead, sometimes they're just a different species

there's sang vamps (vamps that feed on blood) and psy vamps (vamps that feed on energy) and some that do both

i'm currently readins a book series called anita blake vampire hunter, the vampiers in this have different powers (which is fairly common nowadays i think), there are vampiers that are succubus/incubus because their powers make them more attractive and they not only feed off of blood but they can feed off of sex

those ae new vampires im going off of older books and movies, the incubus is a demon while a vampire is only a minor denzine of hell, the difference is not taken away because of one book. psy and sang vampires are still only a reserected human, not a fully bred demon, the vampire powers could only go so far while a demons could evolve.

But I definitely agree with you. I hate how everybody's first thought when they hear the word 'vampire' is that glittery Twilight bullshit. I loved the vampires in Underworld, Anne Rice was incredibly original with the vampires in the Queen of the Damned series and still managed to make them both scary and sexy.

my first thought when someone says vampire, is both blade and 30 days of night at the same time. while blade might not be the best vampire movies, it was the first vampire movie i ever saw.. but 30 days of night is really what vampires should be thought of as (in my opinion)
i've yet to read any of anne rice (i'm more of a zombie person than vampire), are they actually good? or is it more of a 'you like it more because everyone else does too' thing?

Actually I haven't heard anybody mention Anne Rice in probably 5 years... But it's definitely a classic series, and done in a much different way than most. The first book "Interview With a Vampire" is literally just that. It's set in Italy and France in the early 1800's, with the vampire telling his story to an interviewer centuries later. I'm sure you can find a more detailed review than that if you're actually interested, but what I'm saying is I like it because it focuses on the concept and existence of the vampire himself rather than some crap romance. There's a little bit of that too, but... That really just seems to be unavoidable.
