think about it this way, 1/x, when x equals 1 is 1, but as x gets closer to 0, such as 1/.5, it is 2. therefore if it keeps getting bigger as x goes towards 0, and 0 can represent the smallest absolute value possible, the fraction would be the largest number possible, so infinity.
