That's seems logical. Still, isn't it only natural for people to try and rationalize things? Look how many arguments have been made about fiction for example. People don't like the feeling of not knowing something.

The way Banner controls the Hulk is strictly based off control. He has to be the one to unleash the Hulk and in the hellicarrier he was attacked. He can still transform into the Hulk when his heart rate spikes or he is injured so when they are attacked he loses control cause he had no power over the confines of the transformation thus no power over the Hulk.

I don't think he's ever really in control of Hulk. But I think we're saying the same thing from different sides.
Let's say that in Banner's head it's a sumo ring with him and Hulk constantly pushing against each other. They're always pushing against each other because Banner is always on the verge of turning into Hulk. So if Banner decides "I'm not going to fight you" Hulk will instantly push him out. Or if he's distracted from pushing Hulk. That's why he turned so quickly and calmly when hitting the big fuck off monster.

How is it? Banner didn't want to be Hulk for the majority of the film so he didn't let himself turn into him. In the final scene Banner does so he lets Hulk take over.
