Well, the justice system is part of our society. Vigilante law is so polarizing. A system sets standards and protocol that avoids the human rights time bomb of the arbitrary punishments of an entirely social system. We do need people to enforce this justice system, but they're limited in their capabilities in terms of manpower, bureaucracy, and ability. Cops can't be everywhere, nor can they do everything, and their response time is measured in minutes, but they do fill a need in society. So I say call them, but don't expect them to do much other than report your plight and try to deal with it later.
