that's wrong. dead wrong. weight doesn't matter, you are right, two bowling balls of differing weight will hit the ground t the same time because they are the same shape and density, try dropping a plastic bag and a tennis ball and see which one hits the ground first. the less dense wider object will fall slower due to air resistance.

the only reason you think you are correct are because you are mistakenly still accounting for drag. In outerspace there is no drag so you could drop a parachute and an anvil and it would fall at the same acceleration due to gravity.

for example, making yourself flat and extending your arms out will cause you to fall slower in a free fall mode than if you were straight like a pin, so therefore we can see that even though gravity is still pulling you with the same force, you are not falling with the same acceleration.

i saw the hammer hit the ground first, maybe not so bad but read my last sentence, air resistance is the only friction our atmosphere has to offer, the only thing counter balancing gravity on any scale. in space a number of things happen that one would not find on earth, physics has numerous exceptions to laws that govern life on earth for outerspace for that very reason. im talking about here on planet earth where even though gravity has a constant acceleration of -9.81 m/s^2 outside of highschool every equation relating to that constant will also account for an objects aerodynamics and the force of airs friction. source: college physics.

Sorry but basic Energy conservation would prove that mass doesn't affect height since
1/2mv^2 + mgh = Total mechanic Work. That is if height and mass are known initially, without energy dissipation, the balls would bounce to the same maximum height if the total energy in the system does not change.. which is what you "theoretically" spoke of.

In the system shown above, the idea is possible if not massively improbable. The balls, in a system of 0 energy dissipation, would bounce to their maximum height after the first initial bounce. However, you can see that when they are thrown, they are not all at the same height. That is: the balls are stacked on top of one another, this would make applying the same forces to each ball very difficult (if we think about force as a pressure field rather than a point of "push/pull".
The person applies an initial force, that is redirected into the balls that are initially touching the .. pan?.. anyways, this force is distributed through each contacting surface and propagates upward. However, it is not an even distribution otherwise we would have seen something like.. all the first layers of ping pong balls rising at the same velocity.
Not sure if that answers your question. The ideas are simple, but the application can be hairy.

Yea, I'm really hoping it gets approved. But it's already taken them a month with no word on approval and with the government shutdown it's going to take even longer. As it is I'm signed on as an advanced electronics/computer technician; basically a glorified repair man for all the major electric systems (automatic weapons systems, radar, communications systems, etc.)

right - i tried to be sure i used terms like "almost certainly", "most likely", and "most probable" because as with all things there are probably many many intertwining causes
and it's also more than likely that that particular article catered all data to look like nothing else was the cause
