That's Florida. I have a friend in Florida and how much you all get paid is ridiculous compared to here. My friend could get a job that paid $17/hr there EASY. Here, it took me 5 months to get a job (constant searching and unemployment) that paid more than $10/hr.

I worked for minimum wage, and the cheapest apartments around here are 600/month. I got paid about 150/week when I was on minimum wage. You can do the math, and see that living off that is impossible (Maybe with a room mate, but even then, car expenses would take up more than the rest).
It may be possible for you in Florida, but it's not possible here in Indiana.

Alright before I even finish reading your post.. I searched for a year and a half after I was medicallly sepped out of the air force... before two happened to call back finally. I work for 8 an hour and 42 hours a week since the second one called back, With a roomate I pay 800 a month in rent averaging 50 a month in electric with sewer gas and trash paied with rent. I am stuck with a 10 mpg truck that is the only transportation i've had for over a year since it was dirt cheap and still gets me to work and back every day, If I can make it anyone can dude. I know people who work 20 hours a week and support a wife and kids -their spouse works too obviously- Florida isn't the easiet place nither is indianna

Then they can try. You really think that walmart with the "lowest prices" would toss that title away and up their prices? No. They would have to wait until other big name companies did it, then raise their prices. And I'd dare them to try and raise their prices that high. They'll be competing with people who only raised their prices a little, and would lose more profit from people shopping elsewhere than they would from raising their prices that high.

Either way: We won't know unless we try. We can sit here and go through theoreticals all day, but neither of us will truly know the answer. Sure, there will be bumps along the way if they do raise it, but in the long run it would be better. People could actually afford to live off minimum wage.

If they raise prices, it will be by a percent, and it won't be them getting the same things at higher prices. They'll still be able to get more things and actually pay for living. Prices WILL raise, but it will only be percentile. If you played WoW back in Wrath, it's a lot like how Mana worked when you got more INT.

Walmart supports a raise in minimum wage...they already pay their employees above minimum wage in most cases...so raising minimum wage would put a strain on their competitors who do pay minimum wage, while not affecting their practices at all.

People can live off of minumum wage just fine, I work for minimum wage in north florida -granted its full time plus a couple hours over each check- but I get by just fine without government assistance.

People have tried before and all its caused through out American history is inflation and "justified" cost of living increases which lead to more inflation. Corporations have power here sadly and they'de rather pay a few lawsuits and federal fines on rare occasion than to take the slightest cost in their profits even when they're making record profits
