| It's The audacity of those bastards. I'd rather watch the Twilight movies ten times over in a day than watch the Fairly Oddparens live action movie. It was the show if it was awkwardly made into a live action movie with so-so CGI effects. | ||

| Nah I understand, I'm not trying to say I'm smart, anyone is allowed to join the class, im just saying that our school system doesn't correctly identify the smart and not-smart. First we dont learn shit, 2nd no one cares enough to actually take the learning and apply it to real life. When the fuck am i gonna use algabra inrl ya know? I dunno. just my thoughts on how retrded our education system is. #273

N. Korean citizen (04/08/2013) [-] i think the problem is also that education isn't exactly equal throughout the United States too. I was fortunate enough to be in a high ranked national high school. Also the other problem is that, as you had stated, is that most teachers don't take an active approach. Teachers should use a combination of the socratic method, lecturing, and role reversal. Instead they just lecture and expect magical ponies to come out. The best way to cope with lecture based teaching is to do the work and ponder the fuck out of it. For example, if you're focusing on calculus, try to think of ways of applying it to every day life. Try to figure out that a derivative isn't just f ' (x) its a rate of change in a curved slope. Also I believe there's eight types of intelligence. Academics is just one.

xxitzchubbsxx (04/08/2013) [-] so if someone with down syndrome works really hard they can do just as well as someone trying equally as hard who doesn't have down syndrome? #217
-
xxitzchubbsxx (04/08/2013) [-] that's fine that is your opinion but i have no idea how it is not relevant. My point is that not everyone can just work hard and be successful. Not everyone in the world is born equal and so those people can't physically be like everyone else or be able to achieve the goals that any other person can. No. Someone with Down Syndrome CANNOT become like someone who does not have Down Syndrome. These are just facts. But the topic at hand is with those who do not have extreme disabilities. That's like going to the olympics and bitching about their rules because they're not friendly to those with extreme disabilities. Examples, Someone with no legs running a race or someone without sight doing the skiing rifle range thingy. This post is for regular folks. Everyone is different and excel at different things but it's not the governments problems for those people to excel at whatever they're good at if it's not part of the basic education they MUST learn. #231

xxitzchubbsxx (04/08/2013) [-] i really don't understand why you're saying this post is not about people with disabilities. It mentions nowhere "oh yeah none of these animals are disabled" when i said about the down syndrome i was using it as an extreme example. Like some people are just born with an incapacity to learn. it just doesn't sink in and they struggle. You could have an IQ of 60 but you could try harder than anybody out there and get shit results but someone with a much higher IQ might put in minimal effort and get better results. The point i was making with my original comment is that no it's not always about people working hard. Some people are just born to fail. #180

stforiwillnukeufgt (04/08/2013) [-] some people are good at math, some people are artistic, some people are writers and poets, some people are good in the medical field. do you see how we are all different? and they make us take tests based on our core subjects which we have to pass to go on in life. not everyone likes to read. #205

Lulzilla (04/08/2013) [-] Yes, People are good at different things. That's what higher education is for. K-12 is to teach you the basic shit. Want to do something else that isn't covered on BASIC education? Do it on your own time. It's not the governments responsibility to get you to become who you want to become. High school is when you start to discover what you really like and a basic idea of what you want to do later. Do you like woodwork or carpentry? Join woodshop or something similar. Don't got one? Tough shit. Do you like medicine? Take more classes on medicine and what not. Volunteer at a hospital. Get a internship or small part time job in a Hospital. Are you good at drawing or being an artist? Take art classes and what not. They don't have a specialized version of art that you like? Tough shit. Essentially what I'm trying to say is saying that our schooling is terrible because we offer classes or do more things that other kids might do is stupid. It's not the schools responsibility. The schools responsibility is to make sure they know basic History, Math, Science, and the countries main language as well as writing it. Anything else is just extra and should be sought out by the individual. There is a reason their called EXTRA curricular activities.
