| That's exactly what it wants you to think. You let your guard down and let this little, seemingly benign mantis walk on your hand. "Oh, it's not a flying hate bug like I thought, it's a harmless pretender trying to survive! How neat!" Then BAM, it strikes, and your eyes are gone, your house is on fire, and you hear the sounds of your wife being violated from the black nothing that is your vision. Close to insect, always protect! #75 -

| "Everything in the universe follows conservation laws" thats still nothing proven its a logical assumption, but there is no kinda proof that the universe isnt somehow gaining energy. under the assumption that it expands with the speed of light is surely doesnt lose any kinda energy...but we wont ever be able to prove that it doesnt gain energy either. "that everything is caused" again an observation. how would we be able to prove that? its just a fitting concept in our way of understanding things. imagine there is a "beginning of time". just that doesnt match up to "everything has a cause". because a "cause" is related to time...the "cause" happens before the event. what caused "the beginning of time" ? nothing...there was no time before time...ya get what im sayin? if there was nothing before the universe existed...what caused it to exist...and so on. #56 -
YllekNayr (09/30/2015) [-] theintercourser has a point Your logic is sound, but then you get into Special Pleading territory by assuming that a god should, could, or would be exempt from the law of causality. What we have is a recursion loop without an answer. Saying "I don't know" is a more honest answer than "probably a god" I understand, its just a cop out. Instead of just accepting that we don't know everything you just say "God did it". God is the universe, in every literal sense of the idea. It's simpler to note that the universe itself is this omniscient, omnipotent being capable of aentienve. That to push the idea of "God is the universe." And following your "There doesn't NEED to be a God..." you're right...there doesn't NEED to be a God, but you also didnt NEED to get out of bed today, did you? Did you NEED to go on funnyjunk's? Or is it more you just did? It's simply a thing that happened? My first line also isn't a claim to try and prove anything. Nor was this whole conversation you apparently only read one comment of before replying to trying to prove anything. There was a concern of necessity and possibility, and it was trying to be addressed. If you feel like nutting over absolutes and proofs, I'd be happy to oblige. You'll be heavily disappointed though, considering I don't discuss religion to prove anything, and you seem the sort to presume I am. #63 -
YllekNayr (09/30/2015) [-] >>#56 Anyone can note a possibility. I can note the possibility of the universe being located at the bottom of a giant cosmic pudding cup, but that's not a comment that's WORTH anything unless it has any support to lend it merit. Your comment about not needing to get out of bed is an entirely different thing. The argument has been about things needing a cause, and while that may be true, it doesn't mean the cause must be a god. Relating that to what he did today just comes across as snide and shallow. And I did read it all, thanks. #66 -
lolollo (09/30/2015) [-] When Rene Descartes analysed the possibilities for existence in including the "brain in a jar" hypothesis, he wasnt asking people to believe him on the merit that it was a potential objective truth, he did so to analyze the implications "were it objectively true". So yes, it is entirely possibly the universe sits at the bottom of a pudding cup, but my guess is you don't actually give a shit about discussing the existential implications of that possibility. You noted it because you wanted to make a snide quip at how pointless you find existential, philosophical discussions to be. Which then begs the ultimate question of why anyone should then care about what you'd have to say in one. Im also not going to make a strong argument about my religious feelings, which I've given thought to over the course of the last 5 years, as the first coent leading to a discussion on this website. This site has become such a ludicrously conservative circle jerk when it comes to personal preferences and opinions that I was just as likely to receive poorly thought out retorts of how stupid I was being as I was absolutely no reply and about 200 negative thumbs. Which I why, when you see a comment like that, you reply with your questions and concerns you know, to show actual interest instead of some rhetorical nonsense of "your comment was pointless." I don't have actual interest in your particular thoughts. I'm trying to get you to re-structure them. I know it came across as abrasive, but I'm just reading down the line and noticed your comment didn't add anything, so you might want to expound on it or back it up with something. This is the last comment I'll make now. | ||

| skip the god and go directly to saying the universe cannot be caused. Plus what about all the complications that come with god? But science has proven that the universe is caused. Everything in the universe and in consequence the universe itself follows conservation laws that state that everything is caused. So what caused everything? Two basic arguments crop up; That the universe is an endless series of causes, or that there is something that's un-caused, infinite and not a part of our known universe that caused "everything" This is called God, not in the Christian sense, just a general name to identify it. . To some, the God argument is simpler. From a deist point of view, God doesn't cause complexity. Think of God as a programmer, and he Technically God has no gender, but lets just stick to he. made an autonomous program Us. , apart from patches, in theory God doesn't have to intervene since everything would be working as planned. Look man, I'm not trying to troll or convert you, I'm just giving you the counter point of view to yours to help add perspective.
