You can smooth the printed objects using acetone.

We had the 3d printer in my old school and we got to print whatever we wanted, but I only heard about the acetone vaporing after I left school.

You put little pit acetone in bottom of box, put some cloth / paper on top of the acetone and the 3D printed object in there and seal the box.

The acetone will then "melt" a tiny pit of the surface of the printed object making it smooth.

The longer you keep it in the box the smoother it will be depending how detailed you want it to be vs smoothness.

There are certain limitations to this type of 3d printer, they rely on building things up layer by layer and as such complex overhangs like the ones in this figure are difficult to acheive.

That being said for things like highly detailed modeling you can purchase a laser sintering style printer which uses either dust or a uv reactive resin. The style doesnt suffer from the overhang issues because there is always "uncured" material under the part being printed.

The rest is just setting layer heights and proper model design.

Picture is of a model fresh out of a resin 3D printer.

Perhaps an even better example of the power of resin

I have the neccessary tools for that job at work but I decided to just buy a 0.3mm J-head nozzle. should give me very good layer resolution and print quality.

My question is, if you print a minifig, will it look original enough or will it be as crappy as this one?
