That's not edgy faggot shit. Anyways, - well except for maybe that last part -

But anyways, I personally don't like that policy because my past experience makes me put myself in the mugger's shoes. As a stupid teen I once painted a BB gun all black and seriously considered going out at night to scare and rob someone for their money with a fake gun. So I imagine that if some mugger tried to engage me or anybody, there's a small chance that maybe they're just a desperate idiot who doesn't realize that their life could end in a short adrenaline filled moment.

I doubt every single mugger is clueless of that consequence, though.

Many might carry weapons. Pointing a loaded gun at a mugger and being ready to give them a nonfatal wound is better than killing them in my opinion. But giving a mugger a nonfatal wound might not stop him/her either, and this is bad if they've come armed. But at the second they draw a weapon, it's either your life or theirs.

Your supposed policy of killing them on the spot to make others think twice...as a means of intimidation I see it has at least 1 pro and 1 con.
Pro: You could lower cases of muggings by intimidating the thieves this way.
Con: the lessened muggings, after your policy has been established, might come from people who were unaware/doubtful of the policy (they're dead either way, right?) or you might even get muggers who are prepared to kill you now that they know what to expect.

If you actually have people enacting the policy, the con ensures that there is death at any encounter, while the pro ensures that those deaths will come at lower rate. Correct me if I'm wrong on that.

I'd rather not waste a life if it can be turned around. I wouldn't support that kind of policy of yours as the standard for all encounters with a street robber since they may not all have weapons. But I'd support handling the situation in a way that nobody dies, the victim doesn't get robbed, and the robber is discouraged from further criminal activity.

tl ; dr
Killing them on the spot is severe as fuck. I wouldn't abide by that polict unless I knew that the muggers, in the region where that policy could be instated, are all out to kill their victims.

This isn't your point. But if I lived in a region like that, I'd probably also try to find a way of eliminate the need for people to become criminals.

wasn't that character supposed to have edgy views in favor of killing people?
