No, we do not have more crazy violent people. We have more crazy violent people with an item to instantly gratify their need for violence. There are more stabbings in places without guns than there are here. Stabbings tend to be a bit less fatal though.

However, the places with the lowest crime rate in the country of the USA have the least gun control, on the contrary, places with the most gun control(Chicago is a great example) have the highest murder rate in the country.

To put it simply, criminals will get guns or kill you by other means, us having guns helps us to defend ourselves against these criminals, our own government if need be, and deters foreign invasion.
User avatar #154 - meganinja (12/24/2013) [-]
yes but we have more gun murders than places with similar gun laws.

America has the largest military budget in the world consisting of tens of thousands of troops tanks warships aircraft and ICBMs. do you honestly think that any number of people armed or otherwise would even stand close to a chance if they decided to 'challenge his lands rule if it's felt that the leaders and government no longer have their country's best interests in mind. '
User avatar #131 - BeremorDraco (12/24/2013) [-]
And how many of our troops do you think will actually fire on their own family and fellow citizens they swore an oath to protect? Yes there will be some but most of the military would never follow such a treasonous order.
#94 - anonexplains (12/24/2013) [-]
Tell that to the insurgencies in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan. The damage a single armed man with access to common house hold items is devastating and shouldn't be underestimated.
#89 - ellojello (12/24/2013) [-]
Also, forgot to mention, no government would ever use an ICBM on it's own people. That would

(a) instantaneously convince the whole world to side with the rebellion, and not the governent.

(b) convince anyone not rebeling to rebel

(c) Destroy a huge amount of the country's usable land/cities which is detremental to both sides. No one wants to rule a ruined country.
#109 - captnpl (12/24/2013) [-]
(d) Miss because it would land in another continent.

We have about 2 million troops.

The US population is over 300million

If half the population has a gun, that's about 150million people armed and ready to fight against the government if it needs to happen

This puts it at 70million armed civilians to every 1 soldier... Those are pretty outstanding odds..

Further, look at Vietnam and the Middle East. The US military, with all of its might, was unable to conquer those areas to to the heavy guerrilla resistance (which es exactly what fighting in america would be like if the government and civilian populace were to come to blows).

Absolutely having an armed populace can overthrow a government, no matter how well armed the government is.
User avatar #406 - HonkIfIDriveWell (12/24/2013) [-]
Yeah your maths is waaaay off. 150 million armed civilians and 2 million soldiers means that there would be roughly 75 civilians to each soldier, not 70 million.
#460 - ellojello (12/27/2013) [-]
You are correct. The first time I wrote that sentence I was thinking (And wrote)

"There will be 70million to every 1million"

Then I realized that was a fucking stupid way to put it and I might as well delete the millions, but forgot to delete both.

Thank your for pointing that out.

Only Draw back is that we have more crazy violent people per square mile than other countries so it doesn't help the responsible ones ya know, but our government casting blanket laws posed as fishnet ones. I could say more but I won't bore you.
