If those charters existed then it really meant a great deal to his successors... They probably used them as toilet paper and never knew about them apparently.

Were you born in 600s AD and somehow time traveled to 2000s which is what made you unconsciously type "until recently" that it's a thing for muslims to attack not only christians but anything non-muslim and even themselves (between their sub-groups) for the past 1400 years?

While there most certainly were wars, there was basically no religious wars between crusades and what we have now.

Notable example would be the Ottoman Empire, which is made by muslims, but their conquest was in no way facilitated by religious reasons, but rather by your standard run-of-the-mill need to spread. People of other religions they conquered were usually rather protected, but there were exceptions, of course, depending on current ruler. The whole thing lasted several hundred years, after all.

As a matter of fact, muslim extremism didn't even exist until mid-19th century, and only got "popular" in last 50 years. Which coincides with the Cold War. Go figure.

My bad, its not 19th century, but rather 18th. But it never particularly grew until 1970s.

Google Wahhabism. Thats where muslim extremism started.
