Not really related but your little brother reminded me of how I ate the tacos at school, since I didn't/don't eat beef I just poured taco sauce on a tortilla and ate that by itself

Ye, my mother was raised the "you can't stand up from the table until you eat your food" way. Now, she and many other people I know have problems with their weight because they feel like they MUST eat whetever someone puts before them.
