That was the theme of the last episode, and by extension the story, but not the whole show.

Yeah, that's an empathetically acquired sensation.
Similarly, you can empathetically acquire emotions. And such emotions are as different from the emotion the recipient of the empathy is feeling as that sensation is from an actual kick in the balls. There's already one word in use for such an emotion, that's condolence as the empathetically acquired version of grief.
