marriage by the church and marriage by the state are 2 different things....for any marriage to be "legal" a license is required and in the eyes of the law it is a legal agreement each religion has its own rules regarding marriage and most reserve the right to deny it if the priest doesnt think its right all that means is the marriage isnt valid in the eyes of that church but they can still be legally married by the state thats what the whole legalizing gay marriage fight was about so that they can have the same protection under the law that straight married couples have

the churches can deny marriage to who ever they wish regardless of what the government says but the people can still be married legally regardless of what the church says
#40 - TheJackFrost (06/27/2011) [-]
Why should it be the churches? Getting married is not a vow of religion, otherwise Atheists would not get married. It is a government paper which signifies certain rights and benefits. The Church should never mix with Government.

So atheists shouldn't be allowed to get married either?
User avatar #50 - isjuhorny (06/27/2011) [-]
I don't care. I am not gay, but i have gay friends. I am catholic, but most of us really don't care about the issue. The bible was written by man, not god. If a man came up to you today and told you god asked us to blah blah blah, and looked like a bum. you wouldn't even give the guy the time of day. This was written a long time ago, where we looked up for a higher power to guide us. By a conglomerate of people debate on what to put into the bible. I don't care if you are gay. I am also a solider, most of us don't care if you are gay or lesbian. If you can do your job, you can cover my back in a fight, and you do your part. You A-ok in my book. No one knows what god wants, if you try to rely on the bible, you only get shot down faster. I believe there is a god, but i respect other cultures (except for satanic or hell cults)

I simply not care, its not up to you to decided. Grow out of this funk you are in, did gays do anything to you, it is not their fault they are attracted to the same sex, it is just how they are. If this offends you, too bad. Its my right, i bled for it, i got shot for it.

The government should allow it, mostly just to move on to bigger issues. For me, just to piss off the WBC a little more. lol.

They can be married by legal representative of court or Marriage by Law, to be recognized as being wed in the eyes of the law and court , and not to be under god and all that seems to be the issue most people seem to have.

that is my peace
User avatar #53 - TheGregoryHouse (06/27/2011) [-]
>The bible was written by man, not god
well then man decided it wasnt right for gays to marry under the religion they accepted. and priests understand these terms to.
this will be my final reply to anyone. i was not condeming gay marriage, im saying a marriage under god is wrong for gays to do
