This is true, we agreed with Britain to call it off, however we were losing we were only holding the great lakes and New Orleans while they ravaged the East Coast. the only reason they didn't destroy us is that they were in debt so they decided to call it off.

I'd argue that people are social creatures. As human beings, we feel a need to express ourselves to other people. At the same time, however, there are many social inclinations that influence people to believe that if they expose themselves they will be shut down.
These social inclinations therefore contradict human behavior.
It gives a single person two choices: 1. Express self. 2. Do not express self
If it is human nature to be sociable, then one should definitely choose the first choice. If it is true that people are self-involved creatures, and not social creatures as I previously stated, then one should choose the second choice.

Without arguing whether human beings are social creatures or not, we can look at the outcomes of these two choices. Based off of your own experience, which choice have you made, and what is the result of it? From my own experience of having chosen the first choice, I believe myself to be happier for it. There have been times when I chose not to express myself, and I typically regret them later, so for the most part I would prefer to stick with the first choice.

To get back to the point, if you feel that people should not express themselves, then you are doing the right thing by not "giving a feel."
However, if you think that people should express themselves, then why are you becoming one of the social influences that hinders self-expression?
User avatar #284 - killerklondike (12/05/2011) [-]
Sounds like an excuse broski. The human experience is often a sad, negative and lonely experience. I see no reason to contribute any more negativity when I could create some positivity.
But I still make jokes. Like, I laughed when the kid spelled guess wrong on one of his cards. Doesn't mean I don't feel for the little guy.

People are self involved creatures. Some are born with the ability to be empathetic to others. Me, not so much, I need to actually know and deem a situation worthy for my sympathy. Other wise I can make jokes about it all day long.

But therein lies the difference. You saw hope in friends, family, therapy. He had but one good friend left at his school where he was bullied EVERY DAY. Also, you can't possibly be sure that you've dealt with worse than he has. And you also can't assume that the chemicals in your brain are identical to those in his. He could have a hormonal imbalance or something physiologically wrong with his brain in addition to being bullied relentlessly. Don't talk like you know him and his life. You don't know what he's going through any more than I can say I know what you're going through.

Yes, so logically it stands to reason that refuting that anyone else may be going through equally troubling pain will solve everything.
User avatar #262 - The Old Hotness (12/05/2011) [-]
Well, honestly, I am PRETTY FUCKING SURE I have dealt with worse shit in my life than this kid has, yet not a single self inflicted scar. Why? Because I know that hurting myself doesn't solve shit, I know what it feels like to believe that death and self inflicted pain is the only answer, but you can pull out of that shit if you try, not by your self though. Get therapy get support from family and friends. Just don't give in, that's weakness.
